Forming design teams - What do you think?

I was thinking lately how beneficial it could be for the community if some designers could team up and unite their skills. Let me explain. Instead of having only one person doing all the work, which represents countless hours, what would happen if some designers team up and split the workload? Would it decrease production time since all the work process would be splitted? Would it increase the quality of the skins coming out thanks to melting of ideas? Would it favors the emergence of more complete integrated suites (full skin suite, icons, wallpapers, etc.)? To put it simple, my idea is to take the strenghts of each member of the team and split the work correspondingly.

I don't want to start a "riot" here but I was wondering what you guys think about it in a constructive way. And who knows, maybe good ideas could come up from our current brainstorming session

yes there are some very good aspects to team projects. For example look how many people make a skin or wall and there just seems to be something missing. Also there are some people that have a strength in creating the base for a wall, the concepts, color pallete and etc, but not the patience to do all the detail work or converting it to multiple apps. This is where team work comes in. In a way I thought the Heavy Equip community skin was a lot like that. Many many people working on a joint project. Some worked together while others seemed to work alone. But it all came to a final and total package. I have often thought this would be a good idea and something that a place like wincustomize could do on a every three month basis or so. About 3 months before the release of a CD, put together 2 or 3 ideas for a complete collection of unified skinz and walls, then leave it up to the artists to work together to generate the package. All I think it would take is one person to generate the idea, colors, and foundation and you will get a lot of people to join in.

Sounds like a neat idea to me. There are a couple of benefits that strike me right off the bat:

1) More apps would be skinned. Usually a skinner doesn't use all of the skinable apps, so only skins those that (s)he uses on a regular basis. That's what was cool about the Heavy Equipment theme - everything was skinned!

2) If I every worked on a team like this I'd never have to worry about creating wallpapers ever again! (since I hate to do them and have no talent in that area).

Lol at Dork I know Convergence is made to create theme packs but what will they be made of? A bunch of skins created there and there, that doesn't necessarily match each other? I'm talking about skins integration. Integration means every components fits 100%, like pieces in a puzzle. Convergence will undoubtely be a key product to simplify the management process of each theme pack.

As with everything, it has its ups and downs. I personally have no problem drawing the skins that I want in photoshop/maya, but when it comes to actually making them happen, I find it very tedious and frustrating. I've done a couple that looked good in the comp, but I just couldn't translate it well to a skin package.

I'm just the opposite. I do ok editing existing skins, and can put a pretty decent theme together. I still pretty much suck at actually coming up with the design and actually producing art.

Do you want to be in my gang then?

I'm with dethnite... I like making skins (WA mostly, I must be a masochist) but they all have negligible artistic merit...

You got a gang Kris? Hmmm... what's the initiation procedure? Do I have to knock off someone's skin or something?

OK how about expanding the ideas behind this thread, find a wall artist that you like, propose an idea for a wall to that person, then once the wall is in a final or beta stage send out the word to generate matching or uniform skinz for all the apps and shells. This way you get the foundation down.

Expanding the idea even further....find a wall artist you really like and marry him/her.....that way, his work will be 'yours'....hehe....

On a "serious" note. I have ambitions of making a complete skinset for convergence. I have some ideas, but as I mentioned, find it very difficult to turn a comp into a skin. Is there anyone that would turn my artwork into WB/DX/OB/WinAmp/ICQ skins? This is quite a big job, and not only am I very busy with work at the moment, I am also unbelievably lazy, so it might take a while for me to get around to it, but when/if the time comes would anyone like to help?

Hi, Sir flipnet, and skinners. It's a good idea. There's some anarchism, when all the skinners make their skins, and it's interesting offer at users a complete solution!! I offer myself stops to collaborate with you. Only one condition: DON'T STOPS THE IMAGINATION and THE INSPIRATION of skinners. All you can contact with me at mail on my account, or searching me at messenger: Carles Carbonell, Barcelona, Spain - carlitus20002hotmail.com

Kris I am useless at coming up with ideas for skins. I would be happy to take a look at your ideas and try and create a DX theme/objects from them.

zkreso, I totally agree, I often wake up with some of the most intense wall images burned into my mind from my dreams.
