MacOS X icons --> WinXP icons?

The new XP icon format is really nice (24 bits + 8 bits alpha channel). I hope we'll soon see a lot of these. In the meantime, is there a program to convert MacOS X icons to XP icons? Or maybe some tips? Gif Movie Gear doesn't seem to be able to open Mac icons

The only program you can extract Mac icons with is IconShop. Last I tried it couldn't keep the alpha information, but it may have changed with the imminent release of XP. Try it out: http://users.pandora.be/liontech/

If you have Java, there's also ResCafe, which seems to save 32 icons with alpha: http://www.cs.msstate.edu/~smithg/ResCafe/

Thanks for the links, Paxx! I downloaded both, but no luck. IconShop can't save the alpha channel and ResCafe won't even run on my machine.

Maybe I'll try a Mac emulator to run IconBuilder

BTW, isn't it weird that icon editors are so conservative while there are so much customizing programs pushing the Windows boundaries to the limit? While Windows introduced 24 bits and 48x48 icons in 1995, it took years for most of the icon editors to support them. I hope we won't have to wait so much for alpha channel support!

Yeah, Rescafé's instalation isn't easy to figure out. But I would think Peter Stuer will probably make alpha channels available in a future release of IconShop. Maybe you can email and ask him: Peter.Stuer@pandora.be

Take care.

Paxx, I listened to you and I wrote to Peter Stuer. And... guess what? He's already developping a new IconShop version with XP support! But he can't test it because he don't own a WinXP version. Needless to say, I was glad to help and... lo and behold! It works like a breeze!

You know what? I'm happy Thanks again, Paxx!

That's what I call good news, Peter Stuer was always right ahead on development, but looking forward to this very much (and thanks you both for speeding it up)!
