Understanding Food?
So I got extra food each turn world wide but, I have -2 food in some towns. Might Some one explain the effect this -2 food has in those towns and what I can do to fix it?
Also, how will this change in 1.1?
Thanks in advance

If a city says it has -2 food that just means it consumes more than it produces. Food is automatically transferred from cities with surplus.
Only if you have global lack of food (ie - the top bar says minus rations) will your citizens begin to starve. When that happens, a black round symbol with a fish skeleton will appear over your cities starving.
Last night, I took over two cities in a two pronged attack and went from plus two food, to minus 18. The two cities had a food count of -11 and -9. The Magnar only had 4 cities total remaining. There is no way they could have possible been positive on their food count. The game let me play even though I couldn't balance the cities enough to get it back to even 0. I am not sure I understand the food system. You can't build things to become negative, but if you take them over you can be very negative.
UNless you play on easy or normal, the AI is cheating with resources. A resource that would produce 4 food for you will produce 8-16 for them.
It is a band-aid for a poor AI.
And what do the caravans do, in reguards to food?
Once the road has been constructed (the caravan has reached the target city) it gives a % bonus to food production. Unfortunately, it is rather easy to exploit at the moment, if you send a caravan from a city to another city far away you'll get a large bonus. Even if the caravan is destroyed, the bonus remains.
After the caravan has done a certain amount of runs between the cities, the bonus gets stronger.
I have found sometimes that when capturing towns and your food goes negative, you need to demolish a few huts in that town to get the food back to positive. When I check the population of the town, it seems to have way too much housing hence why food is negative and wasted.
When your global food is negative all of your cities go into "rationing." You can see this if you to the city detail screen and then click on one of the resources it produces (in the upper right of the detail screen, click on Gildar: 4.2 or whatever it says for example). In the sub-screen for that resource it will list a "Rationing" penalty of -50%. This -50% penalty applies to ALL resources, except Prestige which gets -100%. The penalty will remain until your global food becomes positive again.
Unfortunately I had to demolish half the town because of how it was constructed. The shantys were all on the inside so I had to destroy some of the buildings I wanted to get to them. Which seemed silly as well. Unfortunately I have not developed the Raze feature, or I would just obliterated the whole town.
Perhaps the Ai had researched refined farming to a level where they could support their cities? I know you can do that.
