Quoting searro, reply 10 : "So if 1.1 is
the real game, what was the purpose of the previous versions ? "
Good question, maybe Neo can answer it for you.
Sharp point made, MOIISKA ! Who said that the upcoming version 1.1 was going to be The Real Game ? Who, then, defines "reality" ?
The purpose of the previous versions was to correct the flaws & upgrade the features of version 1.0, which was (and still is) a real game, sold in retail stores, even though it was a very imperfect game -- like the initial release-version of many games.
The difference with most games is that Stardock worked very hard -- in a very short time, and at a significant financial expense -- to make the very real version 1.0 evolve & mutate.
Version 1.1 will not be The Real Game, but a major qualitative mutation in comparison to 1.0 : the purpose of the previous versions was to prepare & test the evolutionary steps required to set-up the 1.1 mutation.
(I'm sorry if I abuse a few neo-darwinian concepts.)
I'm not trying to indulge in pseudo-smart humor. I'm seriously stating that Stardock recognized the very imperfect "reality" of its release-version 1.0, and since then (August), has been working very hard to correct & upgrade the game's reality -- a costly feat that most game producers do not want to invest in. They usually take the money and run, sometimes releasing a quick-fix patch when the game has blatant, fatal flaws.
Stardock did not take the money and run. In less than 8 weeks, its Elemental team worked very hard to evolve & mutate beyond 1.0's "reality". The purpose of the previous versions, then, was to give to its customers the occasion to actively participate in the evolutionary process -- forum posted observations & suggestions being read and taken into account ... an interactive, creative relationship that most game developers & producers do not invest in (Ubisoft comes to mind).
Would you have preferred, searro, if Stardock had jumped from version 1.0 to version 1.1 without giving the opportunity to all of its customers (not only to an elite, selected few) to participate in the multi-step evolutionary process -- developing it in corporate secrecy ?
