[bug][1.08.037] Enemy AI still kills himself in my area of influence

The enemy AI sovereign is STILL suiciding into my territory against an army, defending a city, with twice the combat rating of his army.

The enemy AI sovereign should NEVER EVER EVER set foot in hostile territory. Period.

Total gamebreaker.

I've also seen erratic behavior from AI sovs.  Most notably, them charging right back into my territory after I do things like declare war when they are in their territory, wipe their stack out and retreat to my city to heal.  Their Sov doesn't even wait to heal before charging after my stack, ending with them dying in my territory and their empire being wiped out.

I have experienced similar behaviour. I have put the game aside for a while - promising wars cut short and mighty empires totally wiped from the map... ugh!

It really needs to be fixed.

well i am not so sure they should never set foot in hostile territory.  are you saying that you would NEVER attack a settlement with your sov?  i think they should boot the sov dies for good in enemy territory rule.  there should be a penalty, but i don't see why he should just die.  i propose that you lose 2 essence points instead of 1.  that would be better.

Whatever method used to fix this issue is fine with me, as long as it stops happening.  As has been noted many times throughout the forums, this issue is a "gamebreaker."  Either the AI needs to behave appropriately based on the risks involved, or if that can't be done, then the risk of total empire destruction needs to be removed by changing the rules/mechanics of Sovereign death.  Plenty of ideas have been thrown out there already in other threads as to what those changes could be.  I don't care which method is used, it just needs to change.

What really gets me is that a couple weeks before the game was released Brad himself gave a word of warning to players that sending a Sovereign into enemy territory was extremely risky and should rarely ever be done!  Yet for some reason, the same "advice" wasn't given to the AI...

It's the equivalent of a chess AI sending it's King beyond the front line without protection.  It's ridiculously inept behavior that totally removes the strategic challenge of the game.  It's become the main reason why I have no interest in playing the game as it is.  Hopefully it is resolved sooner than later.

Against a player, with the current mechanic that I lose the game if my sovereign dies in hostile territory - YES, I would NEVER put foot in enemy territory!

Even if I had ten times his combat rating, all the enemy needs is a spell or two to end my game.

In Age of Wonders Shadow Magic they had the same issue. Solution: The enemy leader NEVER sets foot out of its capital. Drastic but efficient.

This does need to be changed.  Maybe just give a bigger essence penalty and only lose the game if you run out of essence.

Or just let the kids take over when the Sov dies...seriously the mechanic is already there.

i am such a poor player (tactically)... i -always- rush into enemy territory with my sov... i mean, he's got all the juicy spells! :)

If your Sov.. Dies and he has a male son he should become the new Sov.. And the game goes on if there is no heir to the throne game over!

what about female sovs & their daughters?

I think that the strongest adult heir should take over either male OR female based upon strength, essence, intelligence, wisdom, stratagic moves & tactical moves ie the individual combat rating (this wat it possible for the  replacement SOV to be the strongest in the faction).

You bring up an interesting point. Historically In the past they weren't politically correct however I'm not opposed to it. But it does state in the dynasty tree 1st in line for the throne, 2ND in line, and so on with the children. I'm for whatever works so long as it works! I to have a Female sovereign. What would be the point of a dynasty if not to hand it down to your children.
