Morale and Death

This is insane.  I'm fighting the Capitar Sovereign and my Morale, at the start of the fight, even with a CR advantage of 20 points, is near zero . . . Even after the very first attack I make, which, between two giants, 2 archers and my King's magic attacks, has slaughtered all but 2 units and a Stone Giant, my morale drops to zero and on the Capitar's opening move, all my troops PANIC.  The Two units, the king's daughter, a soldier and the Giant, proceed to rip my army to shreds.

This is a bug, right?  Right?!!

Well, the negative talent which lowers your own side's morale seems to apply multiple times for some reason (or carry over, or some damn thing) so it is not uncommon to start fights panicked, despite a combat rating of 700 vs. 19.

The whole morale system really needs to be either scrubbed or overhauled.

Morale generally only changes by 1 pt up or down per turn.  And no battle should last 50 turns.

Moreover, how the hell is it that a side with, say, 5 units for a collective combat rating of 200 maintains that combat rating for morale purposes when it is down to only one unit?

There many things which should affect morale in short run and (comparatively) long run - losses, injuries, overall win-rate, overall flee-rate (although the ai rarely flees), presence of chanelers, presence of long range attackers, Presence of sovereigns and heirs, and starting combat rating comparison

Best subject line ever.  I was ready to read some philosophy, turns out it's about the game.  :)

After the updates morale is still messed up.  Just got shredded, was hitting the Capitar sov, took out all his units and left him by himself for a one on one with my firstborn son.  But, he blizzarded!  And my army of about 8 champs all panicked, then he just went one by one and proceeded to hack 'em to pieces.  When he was about half-way through I auto-resolved and hey, we won!  Then the 'can't end the turn' bug kicked in.

Granted my sov starts with cruel but c'mon, the penalty shouldn't push even my champs to near-breaking point.

^Cruel?

Heh, that -20 morale from you, plus another -20 from intimidating. No wonder why soldiers panicked very quickly.

Y'know, I didn't think of the other sov being intimidating...  But still, when the odds are overwhelmingly in your favor they should offset those a little bit...  I think the stack's total combat rating was around 700, and at the time of panicking we faced one sov with an attack of 17 and no support.  This, after taking down Pariden and almost all of Capitar's cities.  Where are the bonuses?

I just posted about this issue this morning. https://forums.elementalgame.com/397312

Even without cruel, it's auto setting the morale to 0.

The ability says that it gives -20 morale. (Despite the tooltips saying 10%...). That should start combat at 30 moral. Not 0.

Even better is that if you play as Carrodus of Capitar yourself. Combat does not do the same in the opposite direction.

Army size has no bearing on anything at all. I had an army of summons, 3 champions, and 2 archers. He was at 1 health (After being killed outside his town and respawning and being killed in same turn in his town.) I will still panicked immediately.

Yeah, I posted about this a while back and people acted like i was insane......  Anyway it is a major issue and needs to be fixed.  I would suggest not letting any of the sovs with that skill into your games since it amount to an auto victory for them in tactical.  On the bight side, when i auto-resolve my panicked units seem to wake up and fight.

Yeah, the panicking only happens in tactical.  Interestingly, after that first fight, when I auto'd it after about half my stack was cut down, we were victorious, BUT the summary screen only showed the enemy sov as being killed.  It didn't list the other 5 or 6 units he had with him...  Then the 'can't end the turn' bug kicked in, so I had to reload and do the fight over.  A few turns later I noticed the bow bug kicked in, and all my bows were doing max damage.  I wonder if those are related.....
