Question for the devs: Rare grey techs - in or out?

I know a couple of people have asked this in different threads but I haven't seen an authoritative reply on the matter - are these rare techs still in the game or were they removed?

I know that they were something that Brad had mentioned in a number of different interviews before release, but having played a few games I haven't come across any.  Of course, this doesn't mean much as they are (were?) meant to be rare and only show up very occassionally.

If the devs are unavailable for comment, have any other players actually seen these appearing in game?

Thanks,

I am not sure what you're referring to as "rare" techs.  Some techs in the tree won't become available 100% of the time.  For example, in the Kingdom tech tree, the unlikely allies pathway is much more difficult to get than the others.  Especially the dragon tech.  I think I've went 5 upgrades and nada on that one.

There were supposedly a set of ultra-rare techs where the likelyhood of discovery meant that they might only appear once in, say, 20 games.  These would appear as grey in the listof available techs at the end of a research period, as opposed to the usual green to brown scale for likely to unlikely.
