Large Address Enabling for Elemental

Hello all.

As I am sure most of you are aware, there is a memory issue with Elemental that the game makers are still, even after 1.07, having difficulty in addressing. This is partly due to the fact that it is a 32bit application and as such can only use 2GB of RAM, regardless of how much physical RAM or OS you are using. So, here for you I have located and tested a very good Large Address Enabling tool. I have scanned it thoroughly for viruses and malware, it is completely clean and I noticed a good performance boost.

Experience with this may differ and it may only delay the onset of a OOM error. Let me know what you all think. Its very easy to use. Basically all this does is make the program able to use up to 4GB of RAM instead of being limited to just 2.

Sounds interesting I might try it.  After about 3 straight hours of playing I ran out of memory trying to save.  Didn't lose anything thanks to the autosave feature.  Actually kind of a nice reminder to take a break every once in a while heh.  This would probably let me go another couple hours by doubling the available ram.

Just another note, you can use this on any 32bit game EXE file and it will enable 4gb usage. It basically sets a flag in the EXE file to the ON position. Why game makers dont just switch this flag on by default however is just beyond me.

We considered allowing LAA in the game, but doing so caused some other issues (DirectX has to be specially set to use memory above 2GB as well, etc). There is already a thread on the subject, but it's an at-your-own-risk modification.

Thanks Kyro! Your response indicates that you guys at SD are aware of the memory leak issues and are working on them... That is good news!  Better news once they get squashed!
