[Suggestion] No sprawling cities

After playing for a little while I started thinking about how buildings are placed around the town center and how much it doesn't do to help the game.

Sprawling cities are useless lag fests in the late game when you own about 10 or twelve large cities plus what the computer owns. Why not make cities a single square with a radius, and take a hint from heroes of might and magic? There's really no need to display all those buildings - or since they're useless any way, why not have the option to hide them?

What does every one else think? It's not like you can click on a building and have it actually do anything...it's just there.

One square cities, click on a city and it will display all the buildings in the city inside of a different screen.  Nice and organized, like in civ, or heroes of might and magic.

Nice, organized, and boring. Done to death, I like this approach, but then again my machine doesnt slow down even by turn 500 on large epic game speed maps, with 9 ai's....

I would still like if they could take less of the space. Right now 50% of my land is city tiles.

Couldn't agree more. Part of the challenge in Elemental is choosing how to build up your cities. By shaping them properly, you can move around your territory much more quickly, and have an easier time defending them.  Not to mention, it lends the world a very unique look, as if we're not just conquering it--we're civilizing it.
