[Solution] Possible fix for constant 'Out Of Memory' CTD

Hi All,

Have been experiencing constant CTD from OOM throughout the beta stage, and with all the post release versions.

Yesterday I unchecked 'Use Localised Data' and BINGO - problem solved. (NB I've no idea what this option means)

I am now utterly addicted, have had maybe one crash in 15+ hours play.

Hope this helps!

Good to know, I'll try that change (and no I have no idea what that setting means either)

It's on the 'Gameplay' tab of the 'Options' dialogue if memory serves

Thanks for sharing your find. I don't have the game but good to see a possible solution to the CTD problem.

My FPS improved (getting up to 15 FPS now when I normally get 8 to 10 FPS) and the game is much smoother for me. No idea why this was checked though. I only use english. Thanks for pointing this out. :D

From the manual.

Use Localized Data: When enabled this option will have the game use translated text and voiceover data (if available). If disabled, the game will play in English (default).

I'm still getting CTDs. Thanks for sharing, though.

I used a program that made elemental LAA which solved it for me.

I tried this and got maybe 1 more turn before CtDs.  Nice idea, maybe it will work for some.  Looking in my error log, I see dozens of references to "x animation is leaking."  I suspect that will need to be fixed.  ^_^

I was getting the "Out of Memory" crash every 3 or 4 turns and I was about to give up on the game but turning off Use Localized Data in the options as the OP suggests made a huge difference.  I've been playing for the last 2 hours without a single crash. Thanks a lot!

Looks like the "big one" has been narrowed down to something we the players can actually do something about.

Nice find Sholland.

Look up at the top of the thread. Someone explains it.

Stardock can fix this by changing the text from "Use localized data" to "Degrade game performance".

That way people will know it's a good idea to leave it unchecked.

I don't think incontinence explains it accurately =)

Someone posted a quote from the manual, but he posted it in dark gray so it's very hard to read.  Here it is in a less obscure color:

"Use Localized Data: When enabled this option will have the game use translated text and voiceover data (if available). If disabled, the game will play in English (default)."

They're still "Out Of Memory" CTDs. Can't really tell if they're as frequent, as they were kinda random to begin with. I'm going to leave it unchecked, though, as there are no localized data.
