How to Build Up Massive Arcane Knowledge?

I was going for a Spell of Making victory in a game this weekend, and I found that - when I reached the end game, I had a large number of cities, all with Arcane labs (probably covered half the map), but the last couple of spell levels were still requiring a massive number of turns to complete (50+ in both cases).

I had, maybe, one Arcane Temple that I had found on the map and I built the Abby, though not in the most optimal city, I later discovered. No heroes that helped with Arcane research, that I know of.

I had even buffed up my cities a little using the 10% bonuses that seem to become available toward the end of the tech tree.

Am I missing out on some other obvious source of Arcane knowledge? Any help would be appreciated. I feel like I need to double or triple the output I was experiencing during the end game to have success.

(BTW- the baddies finally rolled over me and wiped out my civ - it just took too long to get my act together)

About the only other thing you can do is scout out more of the map and go grab cities with arcane temples.

Elemental is heavily resource based game. Things like research, gold or arcane knowledge, are really poor without city having some resource boosting it, since most buildings give just multipliers, exempt a few at 1st level that give +1 point in corresponding field.

So, exempt doing massive lvl1 city spam or conquering/settling any territory with arcane temple, I don't see any other way of boosting spell research.

You need more temples really. And to specialise those cities in arcane research. Get two or three ancient temples, specialise those cities (up to level 5 ideally) in arcane research and build all the special arcane research buildings in them.

Of course, the problem you have then is getting those temples. If you get lucky you'll be able to grab them right off the bat. Otherwise, you may well need to capture them from an opponent. And if you're really unlucky there won't be many temples on the map :P

Not that it should be a problem. If you're focusing on your magic research then you should have some fairly formidable spells at your disposal. Just make sure you've been focusing your casters on magic ability and you'll have a good advantage over the foe.

I'm on a medium map with only two arcane temples, possibly a third in the one remaining AI city in the game.  I wanted to try out the Spell of Mastery victory for giggles, but about 100 turns to research?  The only actual arcane research generating building I can make is the basic lore shop, so even with a multiplier building on the cities next to arcane temples I'm getting slow research. 

I'm not sure if there's a random tech that permits other arcane research generators I was just not lucky enough to draw in this game.  There's no way for me to view the tech tree that I can see, and the wiki is still in it's infancy (growing nicely though). Unless there's some way to access it in the hiergamenon that just isn't apparent to me?

I find generally there always are very few arcane temples on the map. Lost libraries are always abundant in comparison.
