Random Events

I think one thing that's missing badly from Elemental is the lack of random events. If we remember back to Galactic Civilizations, it these sorts of minor game-changing things that can make you shift your thinking, about how to avoid the worst of it or making use of it to your full advantage. All I've seen lately is just more monsters spilling out into the world, but nothing like sudden increased prestige to all factions for ten turns, a part of the land suddenly going barren or fertile or even one of the Titans coming back. The game tends to bog down later on and typically one giant faction sloughing through the rest of them. Major random events like in Galactic Civilizations can shake up the status quo. What I'm asking is if there's a way for Elemental implement these?

I want tasks like in CIV IV. Build me 5 darklings and I will transfer them into a demon lord my sire. Capture that metal resource and you will be rewarded with 5 swordmen and so on.

There's already quests in the system, but yeah, things that develop your kingdom/empire as well as yourself would be the in line with a Sovereign trying to advance his/her agenda.

There's also random events where you have to make a choice. Considering a morality system would be a little too close to Galactic Civilizations (we want Elemental, not a Gal Civ clone) and we've already divided between the kingdoms and empires, there are still choices that needed to be made. An example would be if a random events presents a choice; you come across news of a pool of liquid mana, a true boon, but what to do with it? Would you expend some of your essence so that it may grow into some form of great resource or would you rather drain the mana for all its worth and expand your personal power, but at the cost of depleting the land. Or would you rather wash your hands of the decision and let the mana pool be? It is choice that expands the RPG elements (Pardon the pun) and can raise your kingdom, make it different from those of the same name.

To OP

Do you mean things like Floods, Earthquakes, and the Such?

Things like an Old Peddler offers to sell you a collections of Papers?

A Champion of Group XYZ offers to Defect?

Or a smattering of all these things?

I think the main issue is that the world is static, until the players act on it.

Thus, while the world changes because of us, it is heavily dependent on players to make things happens. It offers no challenges on its own aside from the eternally growing number of wandering monsters.

I think that you want major game changing events;

a. A portal opens from another dimension and an army of demons/undead/spiders pour out to conquer the surrounding lands. They will continue to do so until the portal is closed by exploring the ruins that is the source of these units. This army is a threat to all sovereigns.

b. An great army lands in ships from a far off land. They proceed to attack, conquer and pillage cities as they find them. Destorying cities, roads and mines. This army is a threat to all sovereigns. Think - Mongol Hordes

c. A great darkness has been released on the lands. Until the ruins that are its source are explored, food production for all all lands is reduced by half and excess population experiences starvation.

d. Bubonic plague has been unleashed affecting all cities linked by trade routes. Reduces population each turn until sanitation code is researched or the plague dies out. Armies and champions visiting a plague city are infected and suffer losses.

e. The dragons are united by one ancient dragon. The dragons demand tribute from all sovereigns. Sovereigns that decline to make a tribute will see their cities attacked and laid waste to by a dragon attack that destroys many buildings in the target city. These demands for tribute will continue until the dragon lord is slain - this ancient and powerful dragon resides in the ruins that must be explored - who is feared by all dragons. Tribute may be gold, magical items or the sacrifice of champions.
