No Equip Button

Just installed 1.06 and started a new game (saves were broke).  Noticed two strange things thus far:

1.) My heroes do not have an equip action button anymore, nor is there an option on their details page.  My sovereign has a club and a spear and cannot equip either.

2.) Unit sprites and their location are out of sync.  Twice now after a battle, the unit sprite shows up above and just to the right of where it should be on the grid.  Moving to a town corrects the problem.
