Mounts rare?

I have played five games up to this point and reserached mounted warfare, but I am yet to se emounted units in play by either myself or any of the AI powers. I do know you need to find a stable or den resource but despite scouring the maps I havent seen any. Besides mounted warfare, is there some sort of additional tech they require to be "seen" or is this a bug?

I've found wargs (weren't able to use them since I was a kigndom though).

I've had horses a couple of times, but they are pretty rare. I find this to be a good thing. It's nice to have resources that not everyone is going to have access to in a game, adds a bit of flavour.

You should be able to buy a mount in the same place you buy equipment, at the shop.

But will these allow you to create mounted units?

No, I was confused, I've only been able to have mounts for Sovereign and Heroes but not unit production.  I like TheProgress have seen wargs resource but no horses yet.

My 2nd game in,  got horses and wargs but I have taken over alot of land so that could be why.

I believe you can discover wargs/horses and use them during design....there's an option to anyways =p. I purchased one for my sovereign and was giddy like a school girl.

They do seem to be rarer than any other resource for some reason. Although saying that mounted units tend to be killers.

I think my last map I found 2 horse resource points. I claimed them both }:)

I'll tell you what's rare... Elementium... that's what...

where's my bears!?   That's all I have to say.  (though I wish I could get luckmann in here to say it even more)

I like the fact that they're rare. It gives real value to them as a resource...enough to go to war over, unlike most other resources for which there are plenty. Owning a horse resource gives a genuine tactical advantage.  There are lots of other ways to increase speed, but the +combat speed is really nice as well.  And it makes you feel really good when you can finally build mounted units.  And the thing is, they're still worth researching even without acess to a horse resource, just so you can equip your champions with mounts in the shop.

Now Elementium on the other hand...that is stupid rare, and the scarcity makes some techs undesirable.

I think to even find mounts you need to be up to atleast "Rare resources" in adventure. There are 4 or 5 dedicated techs for resources, and the last one reveals crystals.

mounts are uselss anyway its easier to use magic to boost your speed and its not like they give your a charge or attack bonus.

tactic battles in this game is stupidly simple. not even sure why they added it.

I don't know about rare resources for horses... I started a new game, and a dozen or so squares from my first settlement that I founded, I discovered some wild horses... Lucky find.

That and my first town had 2 gold mines near it, 2 iron mines, 2 fertile land, lumber, ancient library and temple of arcane :P I was like "Oooooooh yeeeeeeeah". Granted, the gold mines are a little far out and I still need 1 more level for my town before I get 'em, but still... talk about super location.

Horses grant and extra +1 to combat speed, this means an extra attack and thus improved damage

Horses are somewhat rare, and they appear randomly just like anything else. Note that if AI has horses, you can trade them something for some.

They increase your move speed, as well as give you extra attacks in combat.

Also, they look sweet.  It's important for my units to travel in style.

It would be nicer if there were some cheap option, with more advanced mounts being rare.

But... units don't even know how to sit on a horse properly. How is that traveling in style?

!! I haven't even researched the mounted tech because I haven't found any resources.  I will when I play next so my Sov can be on a horse.

Its still worth researching even without, because you can equip your sov and heroes with mounts in city stores, giving them extra speed and extra attacks.
