Question RE: ATI user problems: Could it be the drivers? Look at Borderlands--only 10.5 works right now

I'm just wondering if anyone who is having problems and owns an ATI card has tried reverting to the 10.5 drivers? Here's a link to the Win7/Vist x64 ones: http://downloads.guru3d.com/ATI-Catalyst-10.5-WHQL-Windows-7-

I'm asking this just because I recently bought Borderlands and saw that a lot of people owning certain ATI cards were having crashes. It seems us owners of 5770s have no problems, while others with 48XX and 58XXs do, for example.

Might be worth looking into!

Cheers.

My 4890 has had no issues with any drivers except for when interiors were buggered in Borderlands. Certainly no crashes though. The problem is game related not driver related.

lol that's a bit extreme... it's pretty much the consumer fault anyway... we drive the market and we thrive for new stuff all the time... The dev cycle is way too short (not to mention the QA one) and therefore we end up in situations like that... I work for a big IT company and trust me our release are all crap originally... clients know and it they always wait for the first big patch to come out :D but at least our big exec and shareholders are happy: we've delivered on time! The cost to salvage the stuff afterwards come from a different bucket (support) and everybody is happy

maybe try the latest 10.8 since the release notes have this in it "Borderlands" no longer fails after a duration of gameplay

Actually, Borderlands runs fine under 10.7 if you make a single tweak.  So no, it's not the same issue at all as with Elemental.  Borderlands was making the Catalyst AI freak out and run out of memory, causing lag followed by a crash.  Elemental flat out doesn't use the GPU.  Big difference.
