On Marriage

I've been getting a bit more enjoyment out of the game now that Day-0 patch is out (what with the less crashing and coherent interface). However, one thing that's really really bugging me: if by some random chance my spouse gets killed there is nothing else to be done, forever, your dynasty is simply over. You can either restart or just hope your Sovereign is immortal I guess but I'm not really putting much stake in that idea :P

So my first non-bitter comment here: Divorce/remarriage plx, ASAP. I can't imagine it being all too terribly complex to add in - if status of spouse = dead then allow new spouse would be the most simple fix. As is my current game I am only 21 and will never, ever be allowed to have kids. :P

  1. Marry your spouse.
  2. Send him/her home.
  3. Don't let him/her leave the city unless truly needed.
  4. Don't let him/her get into trouble until you have four kids.
  5. Once you have four kids, the spouse is free to die or whatever.

I feel like I shouldn't be forced to keep my spouse chained to the stove by restrictive game design.

Then do it out of love like everyone else.

You could always handcuff him to the bed, I suppose.

I think it would be awesome if your sovereign were mortal and whenever she died in combat or old age, whichever kid was "next in line" would become the new sovereign. I haven't seen it myself, but I understand that is how it works for the NPC kingdoms. Then, there would be a real incentive to develop a dynasty.

or if you killed the othersides king and your son was married to his daughter so taht you take control of his territory

My spouse died after having a kid,(A monster got her before I could get her into the city.) and I could not remarry after... :(

I just played a game, decked my spouse it in legendary gear and magical trinkets, put her on a horse, and rode beside her, equally well arrayed. It was glorious.

Then she died.

Do spouses' traits influence the traits of your offspring?  Ive always tried to marry the most powerful option available, which would kind of suck if I had to waste her talent by sticking her in a castle to keep from dying.

I just read this in the "Elemental for Dummies", and thought others might find it humorous too.

How do I get divorced?
Your Sovereign can get “divorced” by sending the spouse, without any equipment or bodyguards, to the nearest and strongest monster or enemy army available. Seriously.
How do I get rid of my dead spouse in the Dinasty screen?
You cannot. It stays there as a reminder of your failure as spouse. Or so your Sovereign can go to the tomb to tell the dead spouse how much he misses her.

If it makes you feel better, I still haven't even figured out how to get married.  And I've played a couple games to the bitter end.  =)

That only applies to a strict kids-as-diplo-commodities approach. If you are also hoping to get some worthy champions in the field from your breeding efforts, you need to either wait until you can afford a fancy spouse (many, many turns into a game) or make your courtship a long, risky thing for your potential intended.

From the same sticky post:

How do I get married?
Your Sovereign can get married by recruting a Champion of the opposite sex, selecting him/her and click on the button with a Ring in the options bar. You may need to kill some monsters and/or do some quests first though as the future spouse will only accept if your Reputation is high enough for her. The Reputation of your Kingdom/Empire can be checked in the Kingdom Report window.
