I enjoy my time with it despite the hiccups I've encountered.
Quick rundown of my experience which is about 6 hours or so on a large random map before any patching was done. By the time I get home there will likely already be two patches available fixing issues.
The good:
Game looks good, very distinct art style imo
All the parts for an epic 4x game are here, city building, research, and of course the tactical battles. It's all fairly deep and engaging, designing your units and specializing your cities is pretty fun. The order you get techs in can really define your civilization as a whole. I can only imagine it getting better as more free content is added.
Tactical battles remind me of Age of wonders or HoMM, there are a few rough points that need to be addressed but overall I like them.
The bad:
I get performance issues once the map gets populated with a few cities, apparently the patches today helped that, we shall see.
As an ATI/64Bit user I get the out of memory crash still
Unit stats in the build I'm playing need a bit of tuning and combat could be tweaked to be less random. I've got faith that it'll be tweaked soon enough and it's not really that huge of a deal right now. I can still play and enjoy the game, I'll just be cursing at the RNG for hating me so much.
Parts of the UI aren't all where they would make the most sense, apparently it's being tweaked for the patches that came out last night and later today
AI in my version is pretty poor, apparently the real AI is deployed today in the 0-day patch so, we'll see if that improves it.
It absorbs far too much time because I can't stop playing. I'm so very tired at work right now, so very tired.
Overall I'm not at all disappointed with my purchase, it's already an engaging game and I'm enjoying it immensely. The teams dedication to fixing bugs and making improvements, implementing ideas of the beta testers, it's all very inspiring and I have no fears whatsoever that this game will have a permanent spot on my PC for years to come. Seriously good job guys.
