Notable Locations and Champions

Confusion on how to get more powerful locations/characters unlocked

Hello everyone,

Really enjoying the game so far, and apologize in advance if the questions are rudimentary.

I am having problems recruiting new champions/going to new notable locations and have had difficulty figuring out what exactly is required.

For Notable Locations they have a required level. I have researched up the "Adventure" path, and still my character level remains at 1 in relationship to those locations. My character level is above level 1 when entering, but is it referencing a specific research path or something I am not thinking of?

For champions they show up as level 1/2/3, but I am unable to talk to them. Is it an issue with charisma? I have researched up the heroes/legends ect path and still no change? I wish there was a UI indication of exactly why I am not able to interact with NPC characters because I am at a loss right now.

Appreciate the help.

It's a little unintuitive, but if you select the NPC, and then change to their "actions" tab at the bottom left, there's a "recruit" button. If it's gray it will tell you why (probably just money).

The adventure thing I'm not sure about, but your "adventure" level is not the level of a particular hero. First you have to research the correct tree, and then (this is a critical part I didn't understand until about 10 minutes ago) you have a *choice* of which upgrade from that tree you will take. If you didn't choose adventure level from an adventurer research tree, you won't be able to...

adventure... was that all as redundant as I think it was?

Anyway, good luck.

Notable adventure level is increased by specific techs on the adventure path. You'll see them in the tech description.

For champions, if you select the NPC and go to their action menu you'll have a greyed out handshake icon. Hover over it and the tooltip will tell you why you can't talk to them. Usually it's either because they're not in your lands (in which case you need to have a unit adjacent to them) or you haven't enough gold to recruit them.

Appreciate the help. Was getting weird when my guy was just hounding girls until he cornered them and they attacked. Was looking like a creep.
