Ridiculous AI ridiculously easy.

Just played a game against 5 ridic AIs, on a medium/small map. I won by conquest at turn 170ish.

All I did was focus on warfare, and bum rush the AI with well equipped troops. They were absolutely terrible at dealing with it (I took most cities with 2-4 guys).

I think AI is one of the late things they were working on. It may be that it is better in day 0 patch.

That is unfortunate.  Hopefully, the devs will be working on this aspect in the near future.

AI will keep getting better and better, prob will be be lots of updates, prob bi weekly i am guessing.  brad has said that he is taking some time off in the fall just to do AI work.  going to be amazing.

Hmm...I set mine on novice to try to learn the game (as I'm not quite sure what I'm supposed to be doing), and I keep getting my ass kicked. Maybe they've got all the settings backwards? LOL.

They will, galciv 1 & 2 is proof of that :)

Play some more games and see if they are still easy. I'm finding them quite the challenge but I'm also not bum rushing them.

Thanks, but that doesn't help explain what I'm supposed to be doing. Anything more helpful to add?

Hm, I am not sure, but the campaign has no difficulty slider, yes? I hope they don't make it TOO strong, for I am not such a great strategician, hehe. ^^()

It's the same thing I used to do in the civilization games, I used to quickly knock out my neighbors and take their cities for that extra starting boost. But I do think the AI needs a bit of improvement, but that's ok because from what I understand they are still working on that aspect.

Ridicious isn't actually as hard (in some ways) as Extreme.

Program Files\Stardock Games\Elemental\data\English\CoreDifficulties.xml

<AIDifficultyLevel InternalName="AIDiffLvl_Extreme">
    <DisplayName>Extreme</DisplayName>
    <AIEconomicRatio>1.5</AIEconomicRatio>

    <AIStartingFundsRatio>5.0</AIStartingFundsRatio>
    <AISovereignPointsRatio>1.0</AISovereignPointsRatio>
    <AISovereignHPRatios>1.5</AISovereignHPRatios>
    <AIIntelligenceFactor>1.0</AIIntelligenceFactor>
    <AIUsesCombatMagic>1</AIUsesCombatMagic>
  </AIDifficultyLevel>
  <AIDifficultyLevel InternalName="AIDiffLvl_Ridiculous">

You want it harder? Replace the "AIDiffLvl_Ridiculous" with:

  <AIDifficultyLevel InternalName="AIDiffLvl_Ridiculous">

    <AIEconomicRatio>20.0</AIEconomicRatio>

    <AISovereignPointsRatio>2.0</AISovereignPointsRatio>
    <AISovereignHPRatios>20.0</AISovereignHPRatios>
    <AIIntelligenceFactor>1.0</AIIntelligenceFactor>
    <AIUsesCombatMagic>1</AIUsesCombatMagic>
  </AIDifficultyLevel>

Well, somehow by turn 70 Capitar (to my north) had 4!! cities. So I took them all (half were undefended) and then killed General Carrodus as he was returning. Apparantly all 4 were his only cities, and he left them all practically defenseless.

I mean, I can see why someone would do that, in order to attack somewhere else ... but he didn't have to have FOUR cities, instead he could of focused on defending say two.

Well tomorrow the day 0 ai is in and its "supposed" to be what we all first saw. So maybe its better, Brad wrote pretty good ai for Gal Civ 2 overall, so this should be pretty nice.

The AI is definitely going to take some work. For starters, when the AI does have the drop on me, it seems to attack those units that can absorb the most damage without dying (usually my biggest unit).

and, when it creates armorless swordsmen, my longbows laugh

Brad said there will be AI improvements included in the patch coming today.

Actually, I felt the GalCiv 2 AI needed some work... They tended to ignore certain aspects of the tech tree and the battle AI didn't work as well as it could have (still built excessive units it didn't need and didn't organize it's units effectively to attack).  I am hoping to see an improvement over the AI in that series.

It is two complex strategy games with small budget, don't expect miracles. The quality of the AI is a lot more dependent on budget and development time than programmer talent today, even if it of course helps with skilled programmers too.

Some realtime strategy games can have a challenging AI opponent, but in reality it's because the AI has a huge advantage over humans in multitasking and reaction times, not because the AI is really smart.
