What are you most looking forward to?

So what four elements are you most looking forward to in regard to Elemental: War of Magic?

My four are:

1) Strategy/RPG mix: I like games that blend/bend genres and since I love both strategy and RPG games, I can't resist these when they are forged into one game, especially fantasy games. I especially like the idea of the sovereign as a unit on the board and having to make tough decisions between being a leader and an adventurer. I'm a huge fan of the customizing of the sovereigns, too.

2) Kingdom/Empire building: I'm really looking forward to seeing how this dual dynamic works and think it'll add a lot to the replayablity.

3) Quests: I know that the quests in the base game won't be very elaborate, but the idea of these in a strategy game appeals to me. It makes the world more interesting and presents players with more decisions. I also think that once the modding community gets a hold of the mod tools... this area of the game will become very interesting.

4) Moddablity: I love games that let their users add content via mods, maps, and gameplay tweaks. You get so much more for your money and it keeps the community lively and connected.

Best Wishes,

Joseph

I look forward to making my own custom units.

Also the arsenal of spells I will unleash on my enemies.

And also looking forward what secrets I can find on the map.

Many hours lost, sleepless nights, weight reduction and dark circles under my eyes.

I'm looking forward to a new and refreshing gameplay experience. A game, that isn't like the 10,001 other mainstream games out there. :)

I loved Master of Magic, didn't really get that much into Lords of Magic or Age of Wonders and this game looks exactly like my cup of tea with all the features that I missed:

1. I love RPGs and like almost every game that tries to combine any other genre with RPG elements. As I am not the most hardcore TBS player (not a good one at least), added RPG elements will be perfect for me.

2. I like the organic-style city improvement.

3. I dig the art style (except for the character's faces)

4. I am sure the guys at Stardock will eventually create an AI and diplomacy system that will blow everything else out of the water. I am an avid fan of diplomacy in games, I can spend hours bartering and arguing if it is good and responsive and the opponent acts "with character".

5. I like to create adventures of my own and the modding tools look promising.

But the most important reason for me is:

6. The gameplay looks like it is mandatory to actually explore and act within the world instead of simply building a couple of cities in your region after the same formula, staying home, spamming troops, doing some research until you are ready to nuke all the opponents. I am really looking forward to the fact that crucial resources are not produced by the improvements themselves, but that they only amplify the stuff that is within your sphere of influence, so you have to go out and find them first. I hope this makes for a lot of tactical dilemmas.

Empire building and RPG.

I want to build an army of monsterous troops led by my powerful sovereign.

Although magic is my real passion.

What element I prefer? I like fire. :D

(options 1,2 and 3 are all very important to me. Too hard to choose just one :D).

I was actually looking forwards to good modern 4X TBS game with decent multiplayer support. But I here the multiplayer has been gimped a bit... Still I'll wait and see. Might not be as bad as I was lead to believe, and even if it is... Maybe it something the mod tools can fix.

Worst case scenario I'll still probably enjoy the single player sandbox on the nights we just can't get HoMM3 to recognise the network.

I recently went back and played galciv 2 again. While I think that game is incredibly deep, the game is whole anonymous. If I had to pick one thing I am really excited about, its the idea of having troops that are not just cannon fodder. While I will not be naming every troop like frogboy's kids, I can appreciate that troops and heroes effect the world in their own unique way.

You know, this is a really great thread.  There are a lot of things that I'm really looking forward to with Ele, but it's difficult for me to put my finger on exactly what.  Just reading over the prior posts really makes me realize how many different play-styles and priorities this game accommodates.  And also, how much of what's said, at the same time, resonates for me.

Having said all of that - I suppose I am led to say that what I'm looking forward to most in Ele is the blending of all of these systems into a coherent framework that retains the interesting and unique elements of each and allows them to complement one another.

Cheers,

I'm looking forward to waking up in front of my computer a few days from now after an Elemental marathon, wondering where in the bloody blazes I am... That and creating my custom race.

I'm looking most forward to beating a random map without building a city. I'll travel east; always to the east...

End of jimehau's quote

*Starts first game*

*spawns in East-most tile on the map*

Hmmm.... *hits end turn*.

*hits end turn*.

*hits end turn*.

You have won a wonderous victory by research!

Hmmm.... Maybe i'll try it on the second difficulty next.

*turns off computer*.

*goes to work*.

*his end turn* :O
