New Beta Tester with a few questions

Hello Everyone:

I recently got into the beta for Elemental and I really like what I see in the game. I have not progressed too far into the game yet but I have a few questions:

1. Are there flying units in the game?

2. Are there different kinds of mounts that you can get in the game like Griffons, Drakes, Wolves, or Salamanders?

3. I noticed that you can get a dragon in the game, can you breed them in the game? And can you make Dragon riders for military units? Can your Soverign ride the dragon and fight from the back of one?

I just remembered one more question:

4. How do you force the game to tell you when your turn is done? The reason I'm asking this is because I was moving my Sovereign around on the map he would move a certain distance then stop, if I clicked on the spot where I wanted him to move to again he would move but the turn indicator would advance forward one turn. Can that be changed to display that your turn is done before it moves forward a turn?

1. There are flying units but they are very rare (dragons and flying drakes).

2. Yes. Horses and Wargs and a few others.

3. You can't breed dragons and they would be offended if they knew we were even discussing that. :)

4. You can turn off auto-turn in the options.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for the reply, I didnt see the auto-turn option in the options screen, I'll have to look a little closer.

In regards to question 1: Are the flying units going to be a trainable unit from your cities or are they just one time creatures?

Just remembered one other question:

5. How do you create your own Kingdom or Empire? I couldnt see the option anywhere, but the manual says you can do so.

5?

When you build your first town, you are beginning your Kingdom or Empire.  The whole game is creating your Kingdom (if you're one of the Kingdom factions) or Empire (if you're one of the Imperial factions).

Though.... the factions need a lot more flavor and differentiation, they are still too vanilla.  It needs to feel different if I'm playing against a trade-based magocracy than if I'm playing vs slave labor plantations with hordes of cheap conscripts.

Tweaking tech availabilities (so that some factions are more likely to get rare special magic techs, diplomacy techs, adventure techs, etc.) could be part of this.

In regards to #5: I meant how do you create your own factions under the Kingdoms or Empires that you can choose from when you create a new game that your sovereign controls.

6. I just got Mounted Combat in my game and when I designed a mounted warrior it said I needed Horses or Wargs to use them. How do you get them? I didn't see any where on the map that had them, I saw wild wolves but I don't think those were it. And I didn't see a building for my cities that they could build to get them.

ad 5: Custom faction creation is currently not in - it was in own of the Beta 3 version. This is maybe not 100% true - you can create a custom faction with the XML modding, but currently there is no screen for this ingame

ad 6: look for special resource tiles - one of them generate horses and one of them wargs.

5. You can create your own faction, however, you need to do it in XML. There is a thread up about it in the modding section, it's not all that difficult either. The released game, I do believe, will have a custom faction creator though.

6. You get horses as a resource and can "purchase" them in the store once you research the technology.

You can also purchase wargs in the store, even if you're a Kingdom.  This leads to some amusing scenes...

If you purchase items from the store can you give the item to your regular soldiers?

7. How can I group single units into groups? For example I train three single peasants for defense. Then I research Groups, can I combine the three single peasants into a group?

8. Is there a way to set up formations before you get into battle so I can have my melee fighters in front of my archers and my sovereign?

As far as I know:

No, purchased items are just for Sovereign and Champions.

You can't group existing units, it only applies to newly trained units.  In the unit build menu, above the portraits of which unit you're picking, you can pick party, squad, etc. and level of veterancy.

There's no way to set up formations before battle, though the ordering of units does I think depend on the party order in the strategic screen - but the only way you can change this is through the in which new units join the stack (they're added to the end).

The first is as it should be (though you should be able to upgrade existing units).  Others should be changed.

One more question.

9. Is it me or is the battle map really small. Can that be increased in size?

The tactical map isn't that small, but units start so close together that the vast majority of it is ever used.

I'm guessing in theory you could increase it in size, but only by manually creating new tactical maps or changing the random tactical map creation scripts.

scooter- do the armies start in range of each other's arrows and magic for tactical battles?

please say no, please say no please say no!

In the current build, armies start *extremely* close together, only ~2-4 tiles apart.

Arrows and most spells have infinite range, so range is never an issue.

The current tactical combat.... isn't.  [Tactical that is.]

It needs a lot of work.
