Trade Port Routes Question

Okay.  I have been trying to maximize my profits with having the longest trade route possible and for a while I thought I had one that was pretty good.  Much to my surprise that after I colonized a dead asteroid, the trade lane split in half almost.

I thought I understood how the trade port routes worked, but I'm not sure anymore.  I've looked up posts on the forums and on a solar wiki site, but I already knew what they told me.

Picture:

The yellow circles are planets with trade ports.  The red X's are planets that do not have any trade ports.  The brown lines were where my trade lines were before I colonized that dead asteroid in the lower right corner on the picture.  And I'm not sure if colonizing the dead asteroid exactly caused this, but I did remember that before I had colonized it that the trade route was longer and more profitable.

Is this a bug, or is there something I'm not understanding about trade lanes?

The Dead asteroid atthe BOTTOM of the screen (the one circled, indicating a trade port) most likely severed your route.

Trade lanes cannot for triangles, therefore, any planets that would make a triangle trade lane will sever the trade lane.

Try deleting the trade port there, and tell me if that helps.

I did try that, but it didn't help =/.

Ohh.  I found the problem.  There was a trade port that was queued to be built at that dead asteroid, but I forgot to delete it from the queue when I realized it would mess up my trade route.  It didn't mess it up until it was finally built.

Sorry for the trouble x_x.  Thanks for looking at it  .

Hmmmm...

of the planets you listed, which dead asteroid are we talking about? I see two.

Anyway, I noticed a ship (can't tell if it's refinery or trade) heading towards the asteroid belt at the top of the screen: if there's a starbase there w/ a trade upgrade, that could be the cause of it.

EDIT\\\ Lol, no problem, stuff like this happens to me all the time.

At some point, I just gave up on trade routes and just focused more on making it possible to trade across star-systems.

Not a bug.  Putting a trade port on that dead asteroid did indeed shorten your longest trade route.

That terran planet is a choke point in your trade network, so it's the planet to count from.  Going from it to the ice planet that terminates your trade route, you have 6 jumps.  The reason why your trade port no longer extends to the dead asteroid beyond the ice is that you created a shortcut.  From the terran to that upper-left dead asteroid, it's five jumps.  This is shorter than the distance to the ice planet, so it's not going to extend the route any further.

By demolishing the trade port you just built on the lower right, you destroy the alternate route to the upper-left dead asteroid.  This means that the shortest path to it from the terran is 7 jumps.  This allows your trade port to expand greatly.

Always be weary of opening up shortcuts in your trade route.  It'll take a few seconds for the game to register that you demolished a trade port.  Wait for that to happen and then the longer route will re-establish itself.  Also, if you put a starbase there with a trade port upgrade, that needs to be demolished as well.

Yeah thanks.  I did not realize I had that trade port there.  I must have subconsciously queued it to build.  Thank you!

how do you get that infocard with all the income rates on it?

You just have to hover over it...

Put your cursor over your credit total, and it gives you a breakdown of your income.

wait a minute, trade ports on dead asteroids? i thought dead asteroids didnt have logistic slots

TEC can research in the Civilian section to increase all Planet's logistic capacity by 4, including Dead Asteroids.

You can also put a starbase there.
