If everyone has the exact same mod(s) properly installed and enabled then I don't see any reason why not. Maybe you guys should all log onto Ironclad Online (ICO) first to test it and see if you can join each others' games because I'm certain that you can play mods over ICO. Also see if you can join other people's non-modded regular games.
It's possible that some of you may be suffering from the dreaded Mesh Error--"Your mesh files differ from the host". If so it's easy to fix. (If you log onto ICO and try to join other people's games and don't have any mods enabled and you get a window with that error, it's the Mesh problem.) Just go to this thread and read the last post in the thread:
Do note that it's possible to play Sins with strangers over ICO, so it isn't necessary for everyone to wait until all members of the group are available--you can play online right now by creating an account and user name ("Add Player") on ICO.
Oh, one more thing. Everyone needs to have exact same version of the game in terms of patches. You can patch it and check by using Impulse. (If you can log onto ICO, you are up-to-date.) Also, you can only play together if everyone is playing the same version/expansion (so you can't load the Diplomacy expansion and play against someone who only has the original Sins.)
when we play it says somthing like checksums do not match and thats it....and yes we have the same version. i sent the file mod through skype and he says he put it in the mod directory. we play fine on ICO but i havent tryed using mods because as i said before i was told they didnt work. i guess i could try it when he's online.
Mods are fine in multi, lan or ICO is the same. The checksums do matter but if you sent the mod it should be the same.
would a certain port matter? do i need to have all the GameInfo files in there and give those to my friend or just the one i edited? i thought it was just the one so thats all i gave him. is that the problem?
Your mod folders need to be exactly the same. For Ent and Dip you only need the files that you modded in you mod folder so if you have the hole set of reference files as your mod you need to send that. Or make a new mod with just the files you edited and share that.
Edit: as for the port, try to connect with no mods enabled. If neither if you changed the ports b4 you should be good with the default ports
i forgot to ask but does the mod folder name need to be the same?
example if mine is: C:\Users\JohnDoe\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-Diplomacy v1.011\TEST\GameInfo\CAPITALSHIP_PHASEBATTLESHIP
and his is: C:\Users\JohnDoe\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-Diplomacy v1.011\Some random name\GameInfo\CAPITALSHIP_PHASEBATTLESHIP
would that matter?
Well I never heard of naming the mods differently. Get it working with same name 1st then rename yours and test again.
