It only affects a certain amount of enemy ships within a radius. If you hover over the casting button for Animosity, it'll say that it only affects, say for example, 24 ships. Along with the Rapture's Vengeance, Animosity is pretty powerful.

Animosity only affects a limited number of ships.  As well, if those ships are given a new order it overrides animosity.  The net effect is that it does work, but it's not useful in any realistic sense.

You can pair it up with vengeance, but why would you need to?  Most enemies with enough firepower to really be hurt by vengeance will be focusing on a single capital ship anyways, so animosity is pretty much unnecessary.

In large brawls, sometimes a secondary target becomes primary, such as Solanus, Ogrovs, Krosovs, Purge Vessels, Karrastras, Scouts, etc.

Animosity at least helps to draw fire away from your delicate ships. I have seen someone use it as such.

Two problems with that; first, you can just override the target change of animosity.  Second, the units you use to pick off such targets are fighters and LRF.  The LRF has such long range that animosity won't affect them, and fighters (as strike craft) are unaffected as well.

I was mentioning a pack of LFs that were eating a group of Solanus that were being used to destroy a starbase. The Radiance stopped a lot of them with animosity and the Solanus were able to take out the starbase.

Just give a new order to the light frigates to attack the Solanus and it cancels out the effect of animosity.  Also adjudicators have horrible damage for their cost.  You can clean them up ridiculously easily with a fraction of their cost in fighters.

Also... adjudicators suck really badly, so much so that I just never use them.

If there are multiple starbases to take care of, the Solanus is AMAZING. It also has an obnoxious range, more health than the Ogrov and multiple targets. Just set up some defense vessels around them. ONE defense vessel can take out a fighter squadron in no time.

The Ogrov might have an edge on damage as opposed to the Solanus, but I would much rather have 25 Solanus than 35 Ogrovs. Ogrovs are delicate and slow. Solanus have more health than anything except Aerias in the Advent Frigate/Cruiser set. (I might be wrong in that.)

I almost always use TEC, but I would rather have Solanus than Ogrovs.

Get about 10 Solanus and you can clear a Desert grav well that has 4 hangar defense, 8 beam defense, and 2 repair platforms in 7 minutes. The Ogrovs would die before they got halfway through. The Solanus would also die, but they would clear the grav well of everything except fighters and frigates.

I'm sorry, I shouldn't be battling with you. You have a good strategy that works well. I accept that you do not like Solanus. My strategies are rather bad. I get steamrolled on ICO.

It has obnoxious cost, way less damage than Ogrovs, and its ability to hit multiple targets only works if the structures are built in close proximity.

In theory that's great for knocking out repair platforms.  In practice, an equal cost of Ogrovs can knock out the repair platforms then the starbase itself considerably faster.  The Adjudicators are a bit tougher than Ogrovs, but their toughness isn't high enough for their excessive cost.

About 20 squads of fighters can knock out a Solanus in one attack run.  Flaks will not save you.

Dude... you could have about 20 carriers (Advent carriers) for that price.  That's 60 bombers, a nightmare for a starbase and the units supporting it.  A force of 25 adjudicators would threaten a starbase... but you've just gimped your entire fleet to field that many specialized units.

I'd take the Ogrov over the Solanus in a heartbeat.

I've tried to use the Solanus on ICO, but every single time they die long before I kill the starbase.  The enemy just suicides fighters on them.  Sure, I kill the fighters, but the Solanus itself goes down in the process, and seeing as it costs more than a TEC/Vasari carrier to begin with... well, it's a losing trade.
