Underworld Maps???

Do you all remember in Heros of might and magic 3 their was underworld maps that you could make a entire underworld.  Will the game have that kind of map system where you have multiple maps.  It would be kind of cool to have a heaven and a hell/underworld layer on the map.

Sweet, that is a great idea. You could start with dungeons and expand mines to link areas underground. Perhaps have escape tunnels for your royal family and Champions when the city is attacked.

Probably an expansion pack idea at this point, but I like the base concept.

Indeed! MoM also had this, as this is the "spiritual successor" as it were it would be a natural fit.. even if it comes in a mod/expansion...

We'd probably need different types of cities/improvements so underground cities don't look goofy. This is just an art matter, though. Maybe there could just be a tech called "underground settling" that unlocks underground equivalents of everything you have above ground.

It has already been expressly said that there is not going to be multiple map types (like underworld maps, "other plane" maps, ect).

Possibly for an expansion, but I kind of doubt it.

I have to say, though, I WOULD like an Elemental version of Myrror. Perhaps a third faction, too, which is much more defensive / slow creeping than the other two.

ie. Whenever the faction moves into the main Elemental world, they drag part of their own world with them, slowly changing the land into the other world. This would, however, be pretty much a requirement, as their units take small (but noticeable) bits of damage whenever they're not in a corrupted part of the world.

It's ridiculously unlikely, I know, but we can all dream, right? =p

This could be modded in, since land creep is already part of the game (and presumably there will be effects other than simply being able to build there).  But having the faction on the other plane being represented on their own map while in game would be extremely difficult I think.

Maybe, maybe not. You COULD just make their part of the world a cut off section of the main map (so, it'd be a player made maps only race), if it's possible to have impassable terrain. Then make teleporting sections between the two main maps (Tower of Magi, anyone?) and link them up as well as possible.

It'd be difficult and require simulation instead of perfect crossover, but it'd work.

From the OP of the preview of the modding dev journal

Is Modding hard?

It depends on how much you want to do.  The key tools are included with Elemental.  The ability to make a map/level and then load it from your mod and load additional maps/levels in  your mod and go back makes it relatively easy for someone to make “dungeons” or have cities be a simple icon that when they go into expands into a full blown city.
