Digital Pre-order

I was just wondering how many downloads of the game are offered with the Digital pre-order offer.

With sites like Direct2Drive I know you get one download, and I have had issues in the past where I had to wipe my computer and thus lost the only 'copy' of the game that I purchased.  I am trying to decide if the $20 bucks for shipping and handling is worth it.

With Impulse you can download games as many times as you like.

Trust me! Impulse is the best... why:

1. you dont have to be online to play singleplayer or LAN... on steam when my net is down... i cant play

2. you can have the game on many computers... possible with steam but you can wipe your savegames....

3. you have unlimited download ... for ever... or until impulse closes down... wont happen

4. it allows modding of game files.. steam does not!

5. buy a game from the store and you can register it with impulse... steam does not offer this for some of its games

6. it asks you to update....

7. its just great

i will never buy from steam again.. i will get all my games from Impusle

Well, they are registring downloads made to identify abuse of the system: it isn't normal to have too many downloads the same day from different countries for the same serial key ;)

But the basic idea is that once your game is registred on the stardock servers, you can download any time you need it, as long as you are using the same e-mail than the one you have used for registering.

Ok, I agree impulse is great and I'm all about opinons...but as long as the facts are straight.  Obviously I love impulse/stardock...but I won't let an opponent or friend be defaced on false statements

1) Not true, just tell steam you want it to also be able to work in offline mode.  Otherwise it tries to always find patches. Works great, I play from my plane every week when I fly.

2) You can on steam, and if steamcloud games they keep all your computers in sync

3) True on steam as well, unless its publisher restricted (like mass effect...but EVERYONE has that problem..or TAGES bleh)

4) Yes it does, I run a modd of Torchlight, Empire:TW, and a few other games

5) You can register ALL valve-produced games.  Just register your box'd version and you can.

6) An option as well.  Select "always keep this up to date" or "prompt me"

7) Yes, impulse is.

your game purchase is linked to your impulse account, the only way you could loose your copy was if you lost the username and password for your account, and forgot the email you signed up with:P

well

1) dont know how it is now... but when i used it before... 1-2 years ... in order to go in offline mode you had to have internet... which was in my opinion one of the most pointless things ever... AND you cant play LAN in offline

2) thats new... i remember on supreme commander.... oh well

4) Yes it does, I run a modd of Torchlight, Empire:TW, and a few other games

you can mod a game if you add files and stuff ... but try for example to edit an internal file... on game launch steam checks the internal files and if something is not the same as in the GCF container it overwrites with the original... example is garrys mod and supreme commander

5) i couldnt register The Witcher :( they told me i had to buy it from them... i dont need 2 copies... i am cheap anyway :-D

6) used to not work for all games... on steam restart the checkbox went away...

The amount of Steam hate in this forum is only matched by the amount of Steam ignorance.  :-"

Really, misinformation is everywhere. Or suddenly Steam fanboys are all wise men that are never wrong? (not that Impulse fanboys are, mind you)

I'm only a "fanboy" to my wallet.  I have zero loyalty to Steam or Impulse.  Whomever has the best value at the time I want to make a purchase gets my money.  Steam gets my $$$ way more often than Impulse solely based on that value judgement.  Impulse and Steam have little to no decernable differences in their ability to download software to my computer.  Impulse better get cloud support soon however because that feature is amazing.
