System unstable since installing apps...

Frozen desktop, unresponsive taskbar - not impressed

Since installing OD, my desktop has become very unstable, performance is appauling, and Im forced to constantly reboot my pc, which is a very rare thing!!!  Im using a clean install of XP SP3, all updates, latest drivers on an i7 920, 6gb ram (multiboot W7), 4890gfx, so dont expect my hardware to be the source of any issues...  In fact, I rarely have any issues with my setup...

Most noticeably, I have problems with Iconpackager  -  when I apply a theme, things seem to change, then the dektop just freezes, I can move the mouse, and drag a window, but this results in hundreds of windows images across the screen.. taskbar is unresonsive, and I have to reboot pc.  This has also happened when applying windowsblinds themes.

Applying changes in WindowsFX results in a "WFXLOAD An unsupported operation wasattempted" error.

General performance of the desktop is terrible, widows stutter when moving and stick, max and min windows also causes flickers.

Is this what I can expect from a desktop suite 10 years on??  I gave up using OD in 2006 when I got fed up with similar stability issues, and now, they are still so frustrating.. I feel like a beta tester!!

I wish I new what to tell you Mekon. I've been using OD since 2003 and when I first installed it I noticed some of the things you mention but then everything seemed to work. But now all I really use is WindowBlinds, IconPackager, CursorXP, ObjectDock 1.9 and the occasional widget with DeskTopX and they all work without a hitch. And from what I see there your specs are pretty much the same as mine except for 2 gigs more ram.

You obviously have a computer problem.  OD has worked flawlessly for thousands of us for years.

What versions are you using?

Do you have any other customization software installed?

When you mention OD, do you mean Object Dock or Object Desktop? With Object Dock it almost always turns out to be something on the dock that causes issues. There have been problematic releases of Iconpackager but it's been a while since I've seen many complaints.

Open the Windowblinds configuration Windows > Choose "About Windowblinds" > click the "Copy" button > paste the info into a reply.

The more specifics you can give the more likely we can help.

I will try to do a bit more investigation tonight, and post some more useful info...

When I refer to OD, I generally mean Object Desktop  -  I have the core apps installed, IP, WB, WFX  -  all of which I seem to have some issue with...  Im not convinced its anything to do with my setup, hardware or otherwise, as Ive had many months of trouble free pc'ing until this isntall.  It ieven took over 1 minute to fully load the icons on my desktop, which appeard 1 at a time, on last bootup  -  something Ive bever had before!

Ill also try to grab some screenshots, or maybe even vid of what is going on...  The only app im not having any issue with is Fences!

Thanks...

I'd suggest that you try running without Windows FX loaded and see if that helps.  Set it to not load at startup and then reboot.

Yeah..what dave said! I don't use WFX because if early issues with it...seemed to cause slow downs.

I ended up doing a reinstall, as when I first installed it, some of the apps seem to hang/freeze during install, and all seems ok now!!.. thansk!
