Preferences are not saving

I am trying to change the install locations for SoaSE so I can install to a larger partition.

I'm clicking the little blue upper-left "Impulse start menu" button, clicking preferences and then Folders.  I'll check off "Prompt for install directory" and then click OK.  Literally repeating the above steps results in Prompt for install directory not being checked off!  Changing other settings within the Folder tab does not "stick" or save.

I am using Windows XP SP3, logged in as administrator.  I tried a fresh install of Impulse, as well as restarting the computer.

I suspect the file it is trying to write to to save these preferences is not being written to properly.  I do not know what file it is, so any help on that would be appreciated.

 

edit: I also get this pop-up message that says "Cannot find ERROR\ERROR".

Close Impulse, then follow this link in Internet Explorer:

http://sd.stardock.com/mike/apps/stardock_access.bat

Save the file, and run it.  This may solve your issue.

Thanks for the response; I have tried that before and tried it again to no avail.

I also disabled my virus scanner (AVG), as I heard it causes problems.

Try closing Impulse and running the following file:

http://sd.stardock.com/curthendzell/fix_registrations.reg

Make sure to follow the link in Internet Explorer, as other web browsers will not handle the file type correctly.  Once you follow the link, save the file and double click it to apply it.  Then relaunch Impulse.  You will need to re-login with your username/e-mail (either will work) and password.
