Impulse is the only way to update Sins. It sounds like you're having some Internet connectivity problems. If you have any security software running, try adding exceptions for Impulse, or temporarily disabling it and see if that helps. All else fails, use the bat signal: support@stardock.com
When you say your stardock won't connect...are you referring to stardock central?
Are you able to browse with IE? Often users with 3rd party browsers that do not use global Windows Internet Settings will not see connectivity issues other than with apps that are reliant on them. If these settings are misconfiguration, or hijacked by malware, Impulse will not connect.
