WindowBlinds wins 'em over again

http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/wb/
"WindowBlinds is a fantastic little application with a lot of power. For those us who detest the stock look of Windows, this is a gift from the nerd-gods. It can transform your desktop in an instant, and improve your system's performance as well (if you are already using visual styles)."

Hopefully this will result in more users and skinners for WB. Modders, if you're not skinning your OS, you're not really modding!

It's nice to see one's vision come to reality. It can only get better as time goes on, but hope he doesn't have to fight criticism like Bill Gates though...

I like the review - but I have to disagree with one point, specifically one of the 'cons'. "Only useful in a non-work environment"? Hardly - almost every developer here uses it - the same old thing gets old, and some of the features make working with windows (unfortunately windows 2000) better - if nothing else the right-click roll-up minimize. Also, many use the dinksDX skin to add extra controls to the workspace to control winamp and to act as an applauncher. While we can't go too overboard with the design, many of the available skins are designed in such a way that they make using windows easier.

Way to go Stardock!

I agree with DiscoPopStar...the review did fall a little short, in that they didn't realize that a system can be skinned to look much more professional than Windows default. They also didn't take the other Stardock software into account, which would have allowed them to add walls and icons and so forth to a one-click solution.

However, they seemed to have loved the product anyway...I'm sure after a visit to this site they would have learned how all the products work together...

i am glad that most of you enjoyed the review (i am the person who wrote it). as for the points you have made regarding where it falls short, i would like to point a few things out (in a non-aggressive manner - trust me, i don't mind constructive criticism).

first, i did not go further into Stardock products because we were only given WindowBlinds to review. had i been given the entire suite, i am certain it would have been just as favorably reviewed. i am a big fan of stardock products. i understand their functionality and appreciate the work that goes into programming these applications.

as for the office functionality, i am coming from a different persepective than technicians working in the private sector. i work as a computer/LAN technician for the federal government, and a product such as this would never make its way onto our desktops. our desktops (running win2k) only have the bare essentials. everything has to be approved by national headquarters. i discussed this with many of my peers in the public sector prior to writing this review, and many agreed with me. they also agreed that the full suite would help in their environment... however, as i stated, i was only reviewing WindowBlinds.

like i said, i appreciate the constructive criticism, and am glad that you enjoyed the review.

keep up the good work gang!

I love windowblinds, and its no surprise when others do as well, but until Stardock can stop application windows 'stepping out of alignment' when they are busy (Lightwave does it all the time along with ACDSee) I do find myself going back to stylexp quite a bit. WB just doesn't quite seem robust enough in its replacment of the interface.

The degree to which it skins windows does make it a ton and a half better than anything else though.

Cheers!
