Parallel Maps

Am I imagining that someone said something about dungeon maps? Because I was thinking back on the dev diary that was talking about creating an old Ultima graphiced mod  (free game?), and there was mention about how someone will likely make one that is based on MoM. Now a totally remade MoM would be awesome, but with Myrror, it would sort of lame (interdimentional highways are awesome.)

So the question behind the question really is, will there be support for submaps? I realise it would be completly rational for one to say "no" but multiple gameboard support is always really cool in Strategy games (Civ 2: Test of Time and Civ:CTP, for instance. Two scifi examples but still.).

Man, This makes me sound like one of those kids that ask for unrealistic features.

I do not know whether there will be support for multiple maps in the same game instance. I do know that Frogboy has confirmed there won't be any in the default game.

I had the same idea as you and asked whether "no multiple maps" would mean there'd be no suppot for off-map dungeons, but no response yet.

This is one of those things modders can't really do if the support isn't there, unfortunately.

If it doesn't support "Multiple Maps" you can just make an area on the same map that you block the player from being able to see without the proper mechanisms.

ANyway my point is someone will find a way to make it happen.

Quoting Frogboy:

"Is Modding hard?

It depends on how much you want to do.  The key tools are included with Elemental.  The ability to make a map/level and then load it from your mod and load additional maps/levels in  your mod and go back makes it relatively easy for someone to make “dungeons” or have cities be a simple icon that when they go into expands into a full blown city."

I understand from that that the base game won't include them (ok, maybe dungeons if they have time?) but that it should be possible for modders to do them. But as my English sucks badly sometimes, feel free to prove me wrong if I'm.

It is possible to code in stuff like paralell maps. I am pretty sure about it, and I won't even search on the forum. Why? Because as we all know, Froggie has stated that with proper coding skills, you can even create an RPG using the Elemental engine. RPG means multi-level, explorable dungeons/places. It would be funny if a dungeon wouldn't have multiple levels. ;)

Well, I meant that modders could do them without being hardcore modders. Not as easy as "Plug&Play" but not so difficult as to write a whole system. Hopefully?:pout:

You must change [/expand] some core gameplay elements [via Python coding] in order to implement paralell maps for example. I am pretty sure that some decent coder will make a mod like that for Elemental. I doubt that "noob" Python coders will be able to code in stuff like that, but I am not sure. We shall see. :)
