Brand new dude. have some questions

I just bought an Alien computer. So I want it to look cool so I got O.D. the $49.95 package. I e-mailed S.D. with some questions before I bought and DL it. here's the responce I got.

Hello,

ObjectDesktop is a subscription for one year of access to the included applications, which is why it's less expensive than buying all the apps independently. The DesktopX version that is included with Objectdesktop is the Standard edition, not the Professional edition. The DesktopX Runtime Client only allows you to run DesktopX creations, but the other two versions allow you to create you own. You can find more information about ObjectDesktop here:

https://www.stardock.com/products/odnt/

Please let me know if you have any additional questions

That was on Friday, I e-mailed back and haven't got A response yet, so I guess they are closed on weekends so I'll try the Forums.

OK. So why does Impulse show that I have both Apps like: DesktopX, DesktopX Pro, SkinStudio Pro, SkinStudio 7 Pro. ObJectBar.

I don't get it! Am I supposed to have these?

Also, I am running Windows 7. Impulse shows I have: BootSkin Vista and TweekVista.

Can I run these with Windows 7?

Thx,Dave

When you bought ODNT, you got a bunch of software...all of the above. See HERE.

Bootskin Vista and Tweak Vista won't work on your machine and won't install. Tweak7 will.

BTW....Welcome to WinCustomize. Please ask away and don't feel like a n00b, 'coz everyone was a n00b at some point. Even The Geriatric Jafo. XD :sun:

Thx for the reply but I am still lost!

Am I free to install everything that came with it (minus the Vista stuff ) like ObjectBar?

I'm not supposed to have Professional anything am I?

Here's what Impulse show's I have under the "My Software" tab.

(I'm trying to insert a screen shot, it won't let me. It's wanting a URL off my computer?

How do I insert a JPG?)

If It's not mine to install, than why did I get it?

Yep....install away! If you see software as being available to you, go right ahead.

http://wiki.wincustomize.com/wiki/Main_Page   and here's a good one about Windowblinds: https://forums.wincustomize.com/369294 (frogboy=Draginol= Brad Wardell...he owns Stardock and Wincustomize and a few other sites).

^ That's the WinCustomize Wikipedia (a tad grandiose, but in truth is put together by folks who have experience). You will find a lot of info here about the software and what it does.

It's all yours, mate. No worries.....it won't install something and then send you a bill (I will, but Impulse won't...just kidding ;)).

Have a whack at it. It won't break your computer...I hope. ;) jk again.

Get on the Forums, too... and introduce yourself. Don't be more than reasonably shy...people here are pretty nice. Give them and yourself a chance, anf have some fun!

Dave...missed the question about the screen shot:

That's a link to the tutorial on how to do it. A pest named WebGizmos will be along to give an explanation shortly. He means well. Humor him. ;)

Dave, you will not be able to use DesktopX Pro. I don't know why it shows up in impulse as installed but it does. It is a known "bug". Impulse will show you both the free versions, and the paid versions of several apps, and it will show as both are installed if the non pro is.

I do have DesktopX Pro, paid extra for it, but Impulse shows me DesktopX regular is also installed. Same with Multiplicity, same with Fences and Object Dock Plus 1 and 2.

When you install DesktopX, and run it, there will be an "about" button. Clicking it will show you which is actually running.

Also, DesktopX Pro installs to C:\Program Files\Stardock\DesktopX.

Plain DesktopX will install to C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\DesktopX.

Hope this helps.

How to take a screenshot....press your "Prt Scr/Sys Rq" button at the top right of your keyboard. Now that image is saved in your memory. Now open a graphics program like MSPaint or whatever you might have. If your using MSPaint just click "Edit" then "Paste" and your image should appear. Now click "File" and "Save" and you just choose a folder you want to save it to.

Now go to http://imageshack.us/ and click browse and navigate to your image and then click "Upload Now." Once it's uploaded you'll see "Direct Link" below that...copy that link and then go to where your going to post and click on the "Tree" image and insert your copied link then click "Insert." And there ya go. ;)

And don't mind that old fart above that goes by the name of Doc...just smile and nod to humor him and he'll go away. XD

Oh and by the way....when you bought ObjectDesktop you got stuck with us as well..Not to be confused with adware. spyware, or malware. *_*

See? I told ya the nut would be along. You get him as "Pestware"....he comes along with the programs and as hard as you try, he can't be edited out.

We've all been trying for years. I betcha Stardock didn't advertise that part of the software. :\

Again....just smile and nod. ;P His meds will kick on soon. ;)

Regarding the DesktopX, I think what he sees on Impulse will depend on whether or not he has Impulse's "Show Pre-releases" option checked.  I think what he would want to do, and I suspect Redneck will agree with me here ;) , is make sure the "Show Pre-releases" option is NOT checked and install the regular non-pro version.  Ya?

With show pre release versions unchecked he will still see both versions of DesktopX in impulse.

(What I was really trying to suggest, without quite saying it, is that he leave the 3.5 DTX installed and not install the 3.9 beta which is still a bit ruff. ;) )

Hey guys, another newbie here. Lemme know if this is correct:

Objectdesktop is a one year license for the bundled programs. After one year, I can use the apps as they are and I must renew the subscription to update them?

Fences Pro (standalone) is a perpetual license?

I bought Objectdesktop primarily because I wanted Fences Pro (been looking for a organization tool like this for a long time). I saw that the entire bundle was only 25 bucks so I opted to get that instead, I figured I can squeeze in some use with WindowsBlinds and Deskscapes. So, would it have been better if I just got Fences Pro and enjoyed lifetime updates instead of this one-year subscription?

You did the right thing. ObjectDesktop has a whole lot of programs; you can't go wrong for $25. Don't forget IconPackager and DesktopX.

To update after a year, you will have to renew.

I'm not sure about Fences Pro.

I believe Fences Pro will be good until the next full release, we're at 1.00.4275 now, I think you'll not need to renew until 2.o comes out.

But don't quote me.
