[Suggestion] Shards and spells

The Situation:

James the EWOM player makes OMNIRON THE EVIL LORD OF CONFLAGRATION the sovereign with fire magic books. The game starts and OMNIRON THE EVIL LORD OF CONFLAGRATION spawns across the map from the fire shard with 1 or 2 opposing sovereigns in between.

The Obstacle:

OMNIRON THE EVIL LORD OF CONFLAGRATION won't be able to cast certain spells and James the OMNIRON THE EVIL LORD OF CONFLAGRATION creator will have had spent points on fire books with minimal payoff (whats the point if there's no payoff!!!)! The specific problem is creating a sovereign with magic books that require shards that they won't get without conquering other nations and thus winning the game without casting his favorite spell the "BIG BANG".

While it depends on what magic books OMNIRON THE EVIL LORD OF CONFLAGRATION was created with and overall strategy of James has decided upon for victory, it could quite easily end up a situation wherein the location one spawns dictates the overall enjoyment of the game. Whats OMNIRON THE EVIL LORD OF CONFLAGRATION without a fire shard? I'll tell you what. He's just a rabbit with a flaming stick.... And he's scared of it.

The Path to the Solution:

Shards are neutral and James has to choose the type of magic he would like to harvest upon creation of the shard harvesting improvement. In the case of those switching magic types often, it could cost the same amount to demolish it that it did to make it. This way it will cost him if OMNIRON THE EVIL LORD OF CONFLAGRATION has a mid life crisis and decides to start spreading the joy of gentle baths amongst the world. This may also allow for more fire centered spells which might require 2 fire shards.

The _________ ?:

Of course this is just a suggestion and is open to more suggestion in itself. It can also be ignored but i don't think OMNIRON would appreciate that.

Thoughts?

That would make things too easy for me. I want a game that shrugs it's shoulders and says 'tough break' and leaves me to figure out how to get my hands on the relevant shard through hook or by crook. It would also take away the situation of you having the shard an enemy needed, reducing strategic options.

Just my opinion.

OMNIRON should consider using more discrete clothes. And know that only the most powerfull spells will end requiring you to control certain types of Shards, while most of the spells won't. Or that said Frogboy. COnsidering that the current magic system is more placeholder than magic system, I believe him.

Omniron needs to think twice about the risk vs. possible reward of putting all his eggs in one basket.

Yes i ran these ideas past OMNIRON myself, but then he said something about brushing my teeth with an enchanted toothbrush who's bristles are actually tendrils of flame and i decided it couldn't hurt to just put it out there even if only to keep in mind as the game developes.

Actually while we are on the subject of Omiron shouldn't we also discuss Stunty the Spell Stupid who invested in no books whatsoever. Well least he has for this phase of Beta. In a game call EWoM shouldn't having at least a basic spellbook be a requirement. While it is quite nice not to have to worry about SP buildings, and Studying spells and probably a whole tree of tech. And while having lots of choices as a player is always a better thing.

I am not sure this is a choice that should be allowed. Basic Spells should come standard.

well, at one brief intermediate the game DID have a "basic" spell book that cost no points to buy.

Hehe you can just imagine the spells-

Pull Rabbit out of hat.

Cost: 50 spell points.

Effect: Increases troop morale.

Cup and balls trick

Cost: 60 mana

Effect: 30% chance of causing confusion to enemy.

Not getting Basic Spellbook (automatically and for free) for custom Sovereigns should be a bug. So Stunty should be fine in EWoM (in theory).
