Anti-Rush?

Anti-Rush?

How to defend?

Hey, everyone! Just a quick strategy question. A friend and I played two games tonight, and in both games the following happened:

-We were teamed up and working together

-Enemies posed no apparent threat

-Suddenly, BOOM, upwards of 30 enemy ships jump into a planet of ours, not more than 10 minutes into the game, accompanied by a Capital or three.

We're not poor players by any measure, and we historically are very strong when working together. However, we can't seem to figure out any possible strategy to deter a rush. In the first game the rushing ships were Assailants, and in the second they were Disciple Vessels. We assume that one player is being fed by another, but seeing as a Star Base is not only temporary but ignorable and a counter-rush is cataclysmic and rather luck-based, how do we counter this god-awful strategy?

Thanks in advance!

nothing wrong with being new...but if you think your good when your not...thats when your will see little/to no improvement.

if you read my entire post you would know that i am trying to help

too many people complain and whine and complain about rushing and spamming and well just about everything if they do not win...boo-hoo go play something else.

some more advice for newbie whod like to improve and hold their own against skilled...always go a military start and you cant go wrong. build 2 military labs NO MORE THAN 2 caps and colonize terrans/deserts/ and roids. always colonize TOWARDS your enemy and if your vasari keep a migrater close to fight incase you need a base for a choke point. at the start send a colony to ur roid and ur cap to another planet,,,simply build a turret at ur roid as soon as u colonize it right next to the planet close to where the pirate siege frigate is. the turret will kill the siege before it kills ur planet. also tech up a bit once u get a sizable fleet. go for damage first (ie. phase missiles, beams) and armor and sheild upgrades next. as TEC def get the early armor upgrades

first caps

TEC-2 sovas or 1 sova/1 marza or 1 sova/1 akkan

advent-2 halycons or 1 halycona and 1 progenater

vasari-2 skirantras or 1 skirantra and 1 egg

Drop in the occasional turret too.  Your best bet is to get 10 scouts out and discover your chokeponts early, and colonize those first, then drop all your resources into getting those defended first and work backwards with just enough ships to colonize what planets you have available.  (Exception, grab any roids along the way, they're a quick source of income and take less that 60 sec to claim with an early game fleet)

sometimes this tactic doesn't worked out if ur opponent likes to bypass ur chokepoint and aiming directly for ur HW

True, but they're not likely to do this unless they know you haven't been colonizing.  With the proper defenses you should be able to take out their scouts before they find you out and colonize inside your projected empire.

I should be clear, tho.  There is no be all end all strategy, everything is stoppable.  This particuar strat is only viable when using a colony cap, as the frigates don't have any antimatter left more than 2 jumps away, so it will dictate your forst capitol ship.

As long as your opponent doesn't know you're bulldozing for the chokepoint tho, then more often than not they will think you're just that far out and start from there.  If you don't grab those worlds you passed over immediately, tho, then you have wasted the opportunity you bought yourself.
