Icon Packager does not change all icon

I created a Icon Package however not all the icons especially in the Control Panel change. If I apply the Icon Packager package several times, then the do change however some of the other icons in the control panel start dunplicating themselves.

I have purchased the full version and it is the latest Icon Packager 5.

Screenshot or list of icons that fail?

What happens if you end the explorer process adn restart it? (using task manager)

Add remove hardware, date and time, Display, Keyboard, Mouse, Game controller, Power options, Sound and Audio devices, system and user accounts within Control panel. I am using WinRar and even though I did not change the icon in Icon Packager, it changed it anyways to another icon that i used to for .cab files.

As for the duplicating icons, Add and remove hardware duplicates as well as DW WLAN Card Utility (dell) sometimes System duplicates.

If I end Explorer.exe and restart it, or restart the computer more icons within the control panel duplicate.

I would like to confirm that after applying an icon package (using latest icon packager) - copperDeck2_4.5 not all of my icons changed; after a reboot all of my control panel icons except for devices and printers remained vanilla. But I did see them flicker and change to the icon package and then go back to vanilla the first time I run control panel after a reboot. I havent seen any duplicated icons so far

using win 7 64

Well I am willing to wait but definitely not for "years". I hope stardock corrects it in a next update or 2. Otherwise why did I pay for an application that doesnt do it's job?

I currently have a ticket open with StarDock and they have had me try several things which have, as of yet, not solved my problem.

Curt from stardock says:

In IconPackager, under Settings>System Settings you can use the 'Rebuild Icon Cache' and Repair Icon Images buttons, which should help with this issue. If not, try the Repair Shell Icons... button and select "Repair shell icons for all processes" and click OK.

Download the "Blank Icons Fix" for your platform (32 or 64 bit) and run it. Make sure to right click and run as admin if you're using Windows Vista.

This did not work for me but maybe it will work for you and as he gives me more ideas on fixing this issue, I will post them here.

There are 2 issues here. Blank icons are caused when IconPackager fails or is unable to load the icon images. The ticket I believe is ptuckey's is for multiple instances of the Dell wireless utility appearing in the control panel, which I don't believe is being caused by IconPackager.

There are several fixes for the default icon issue in IconPackager, mainly because it has to accommodate several different ways that icons change in Windows (changing the Control Panel icons is completely different from changing shortcut icons is completely different from changing application icons, etc.) If you are having this issue and advice from the forums is not helping please e-mail support@stardock.com and specify what you have tried to repair them.

I just purchased Icon Packager 5 and it doesn't appear to work as well as previous versions.. I am having the same trouble.. My desktop folder icons don't change and my documents don't change.. I was hoping to hear of an easy fix.. I sure could use one.. thanks Pat

I have also struggled constantly with IconPackager. I create icon collections all the time, so it seems to be a daily battle for me to get things to work properly. I've submitted a few trouble tickets in the past but I've been told that it's a problem that's being worked on. Hopefully that will be the next big project after the new WB update is finally released. I guess at least it gives me something to look forward to......( note to self : "man, you really need to get a life" )

I created some icon packages and recently when applied not all the folders on the desktop looked like in my package. So I tried the rebuild icon cache and that worked perfectly.

I found a workaround for the package I wanted to display on the desktop.. I created a folder, called it stuff, added all my folders ino it.. opened the stuff folder and changed manually all the folders inside of stuff to the icon package I wanted. then just drag them to the desktop, delete the stuff folder.. and now my desktp looks the way I want it to.. it's a lot of work for just one theme.. oh well. This is really frustrating! I have gone through the long process of changing all the control panel icons to my custom icons. When I then apply the changes and go to the control panel screen all those I changed do appear. But, when I switch to another package (e.g. windows default) and come back to my custom package, none of the control panel icons show. All that laborious changing down the drain. Stardock really should fix this because there are competing programs which change all of the icons. That's what I want (and I'm sure others do too) from a program because I am tired of the default windows icons. A gui program should be about changing/customizing the appearance to a person's preferences. But IP falls short. It is not as thorough a program as, for example, WB.

I created another package via package builder. I used the area which builds the control panel icons and tested this by putting a few (maybe 5) in there. I then saved the package and went to the program to apply it. After applying those control panel icons did show. So, it appears that changing the icons via the program's "change icon" function doesn't work but if one starts out by building a package which includes the control panel icons, then that does work. Still seems that the program is flawed if there is only one way to get the control panel icons to show (i.e. by using package builder). The program should allow modifications after one has built a package rather than requiring one to start from scratch with the building process.

I stopped using iconpackager a long time ago for it's lack of changing all icons and above all restore them : applying a package that doesn't do it's job is one thing but discovering that my icons got messy when reversing back was a major drawback !

Hi,

I have a similar issue where the library icons are not changed. Using faenza icons.

I would expect just a standard closed folder for the libraries, it now looks quite rubbish with them not matching.

Is this a recurring problem or do I have to change a setting somewhere?

Can I add that this pack does include a library icon as shown here:

The libraries should show a closed folder with a little windows logo, but they don't.

** sorry - SOLVED ** needed to change them in Icons & Cursors > Folders tab > Choose library > Change this icon > pick faenza one > apply
