I don't think I have ever seen here that a Master has to skin for all OS, seems they should be able to choose.

Actually, yes, Masters DO have to skin for all OS, per this thread, reply #114; https://forums.wincustomize.com/368441/page/5/#114

Although, personally, I think that's rather hypocritical since Stardock is phasing out XP support for a lot of their software.

I wonder if the reference was talking about a Master doing a Master Skin for sale vs a Master Skinner continuing to do skins for free.

Not really sure of the reasons for having to skin for all OS as a Master.

Life as a non-skinner is so less complicated and stressful.  :sun:

XP was great but that's gone now. We had two XP computers in the house but ......well they died. Not good but then all good things have to come to an end. So what do you do? Put more money into an old outdated hardware platform? 2002 era computers that were worn out. No, I took the plunge and went to Win7 64bit Home premium. To buy the whole computer cost about as much as what I've paid to get the old computers re-built! All I have is 3 gigs of RAM and it's a Compaq but man it's flying. Very fast. Can't believe how much faster log in and log out are. Booting up is amazing. Much faster than any XP computer I've ever used. Faster in general. 7 just rocks. Wonderful OS. I loved XP and when everything was right it was great but 7 really is better.

Seems to me that it is unreasonable that anyone should HAVE to skin for all 3 OS. Is Stardock/Wincustomize going to buy the skinner a computer? No. What if I don't have all 3? I can't release a Master Skin?

Come to think of it, not all Master Skins from Stardock Design support all 3 ;)

For the record, I do happen to have XP, Vista and Win7 and I fully intend to do xp substyles for my skins as long as I have a working xp machine.

my friend uses xp on her pc and when she asks me round to help sort some prob out its like a time warp-i loved it once but like most things in life its past its sell by date  lol

I don't think anyone should HAVE to skin all three OSs.  If I purchase a Master skin though, it would be nice to have support for all three OSs, since there are three OSs out there that I may or may not be using.  For me, I have all three, but others don't.  I understand that and so do skinners.  But you can't expect someone to do something.  You can't make them do it either.  Either they do, or they don't.  In the end, it's their profits (if it's a Master skin) that hurt.  And what does it hurt you?  You can't use the skin.  Boo-hoo.

If I purchase a Master skin, that's one of the things that I would def. look at.  Does it run on all the OSs that I have?  If not, is it still hot as hell on the target OS?  You can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time.

1. ah, grasshopper, while you may accept a car without tires for free, would you buy one without tires?

2. ah, grasshopper, you say you're a master of the windowblinds, prove it. (just kidding, all of the masters have proven their ability to skin just about anything)

I wonder how the percentage of windows OS users have changed in the recent months (to lazy to check) but the last I saw XP had something like 60% of the market share. I was shocked but then again....

Newegg has Win 7 pro x64 OEM for $140.

upgrade is listed at $184 and new is listed at $274, didn't check if they were 64bit.

I went to the link and read all comments could not make a comment their post is locked.
Beings, the Master skins was brought up here.
I will post here quoting from that post

It's not "lame" considering over 60% of WINCUSTOMIZE users are still on XP.  If the majority uses the OS, it needs to be supported.

Why did I say what I did on here? Because we are discussing a skin that people pay for.  This is not a free skin.  It is a Master skin.  It should be as artistically and technically perfect as possible.  Style has nothing to do with it- people's tastes are all different.  But love or hate a design, a Master skin needs to exude quality.
End of quote
END QUOTE form that post

If Stardock is telling Mater Skinners that they have to include XP because it is not free then why has Stardock abandoning  XP an not supporting it as they have to focus their attention on the NEW OS Se7en.. I say IF XP users are paying $$ then shouldn't Stardock be making the app's to work in XP too and not sunset them.  60% is a hell of a lot of users, to abandon at least keep doing it for XP till 2014 like MS.

you know not even half of the 60% will even move from XP by 2014 which I would have to say If XP users are smart then they would not renew their Sub to Object Desktop or the separate one A.K.A WindowBlinds, CursorFX etc. that said. That is a lot of $ Stardock COULD lose out on

My point is Telling Master Skinners that they HAVE to include XP… but Stardock is not going to focus in XP.

This should be up the Master Skinner to include or not to and that should go for XP, Vista, or Se7en…

What time machine do you have that allows you to so boldly make such a claim? No one knows what kind of flow will happen as there are far too many variables to consider.

I believe that is only if it's a Master Skin. I would also think that once Stardock drops support for XP, that would no longer apply.

I don't know, DC....up until just 3 months ago when a friend of her's passed on his old laptop, my daughter was still running Windows 98.

In hard times, a person has to make due, and at least from where I live, things aren't going to get a whole lot better in the foreseeable near future.  If I didn't HAVE to have my computer for my job, I'd be on XP.

Plenty of folks who can afford and have 7.. still use XP... for many reasons, not the least of which is being able to do a much more comprehensive job of customizing.

Including myself.  :sun:

Provide a better skinning experience and many more would be willing to give Seven a chance I bet.

What?  That is what I was saying...   did you even read my post # 66
More people are using XP and MORE than likely more will still be using XP in 2014 than any other OS
---
1] To be telling Master Skinners that they have to include XP is just not right (TO ME)
2] And then Stardock is Stopping to include XP (the to just clash 1 and 2)
I myself want the Master Skinners to include XP 7 Vista but it should be up them
---

and ME XP and Se7en   NO Vista it's a coaster for my Coke

NOTE I was not stating that 7 should be the only OS for master skinners to skin…
OR that everyone needs to go out and get 7…
OR that I COULD predict THE future…

The only THING I was pointing out is
1] To be telling Master Skinners that they HAVE to include XP is just not right (TO ME)
2] Stardock is stopping to include XP but telling Master Skinner’s to include XP
3] Stardock Should support XP a lest till 2014 as for     … MicroSoft is or they say they will
---
NO I don’t have a so called time machine… so let’s not be rude and state BS like that… So if I state this  there will people use 95, 98 in the year 2014 I must have I time machine.

What is interesting is that it really doesn't matter what OS people run.  They run what works for them.

Just way to much discussion on things like this and what browser people run.  Really, come on.  :sun:
