User Entered Ideas for the Developers

First off,

Let me say that this game is very addicting and exciting.  I feel that it is THE perennial sci-fi strategy game, and will be for a long, long time.  Only Master of Orion II was nearly this complete, but that game is over 10 years old. (And Sins is better too)

That said, is there an area here where users can post suggestions to the developers for, hopefully future patches?

I have a suggestion that I think will add to the overall experience:

When the AI knows that the tide of battle is turning, it musters it's fleet(s) and attacks you at your weakest/closest/home planet and fights until the bitter end.  it then admits defeat and, although you can keep playing, it becomes boring because the computer doesn't do anything anymore.

Can you make it so that if the player chooses to keep playing, that any AI players left, even just ships, continue to fight on as if the games wasn't conceited?

Or, you could always have an option in the options area of the game that turns off the AI's ability to surrender.

I only ask because after hours of working hard to best the AI,  it always feels like a hollow victory because the AI gives up so easily.  I have been in much worse shape and still managed to win, the AI should too.

Thanks, great game. I am pre-ordering the newest, full edition for myself and a few friends.  I am sure that Diplomacy will add even more time and fun to this one.

Cheers,

Here would be the best place.  A lot of the changes in the last patch were those that were proposed on this very forum.  There is an expansion pack currently in development (Diplomacy) and any new content suggestions should be on that forum.

As for the AI, let me just say this:  we know. There are lots of issues with the AI, not the least of which is its erratic surrender behavior.  I take it you're fairly new, so you've only seen one side of the surrender problem, that it surrenders too early.  Once you get more experienced, you'll see the opposite problem: it surrenders too late.  We have a surrender AI right now that is the worst of both worlds.

I've run experiments on the surrender AI, and I've found a common theme.  It tries to maintain a fleet size that is similar to your's (at least 60% as large as what you have).  However, if it has so little income that it cannot build a fleet of that size, it will surrender.  So, if you don't want it to surrender, keep your fleet size small.  The smaller your fleet size, the less pressured the AI feels to keep its fleet large.  If it loses too many units and planets, it may still surrender on the grounds that it cannot keep up, but if it's that far gone you'd have trouble getting much fight out of it anyways...
