resources

something ive noticed in some games ive played.

resource mining upgrades: are they EVER worth it? i mean, they cost somewhere over 1000 credits after resource-to-credit conversions, and you get a 7% upgrade? wtf? thats going to take somewhere around, 20-30 minutes to payoff, and you can easily lose the game, or at least a planet or two(remember, the upgrade affects each extractor individually, so each planet you lose you lose the bonus for ALL the extractors you lost at that planet, thus further increasing pay off time), in that time where those resources wouldve saved your ass.

to me, it seems each resource upgrade you buy you're taking a huge leap into the darkness, where you're throwing most, if not all, your eggs in a basket hoping that you dont lose something.

opinons? suggestions? advice?

Depends on how high your resource income is.  Remember that resource income is relatively a large proportion of your income in the early game, so a % boost here is very valuable.  Especially Vasari with neutral extractors, these bonuses can rack up quite quickly.

Suppose you have about 15 resources per second income.  A 7% boost to this is about 1 extra resource point per second.  This is more lucrative than building a trade port, and likely a whole lot cheaper and easier.  If you have a fairly high resource income to begin with, these upgrades are fairly solid.

This is something you'd pick up situationally if you happen to have a high resource income.  If you have somewhere better to spend your money, then do so, but if you need a good place to invest it, this will work just fine.

With the Vasari, those resource upgrades (specifically the first 3) are necessary to build Refineries.

Unless you have some sort of ideal location to build refineries, those generic resource upgrades are probably a better return anyways.  Refineries are expensive to build.
