Windows Live messenger crashing due to WindowsBlind

Many years ago I purchased a GalCiv II Desktop theme from Stardock and nary a problem has occured since then. Recently I upgraded to the latest version of Windows Live (I'm also running Windows XP Pro Svc Pk 3) and now Live keeps crashing whenever I it. I am unsure what version of windowsblind I have, not even sure how to check, it doesn't even show up in my add/remove programs. I use to have a stardock manager but now sure what happened to that.

Open WB config and go to the system info tab(old version)or About WindowBlinds(new). Copy and paste it into this thread.

And where do I find this WB config? Seriously, this came as part of another program when I installed sd central way back in 2005 it seems. I finally got SD central running and it ways I have Windows Blind 4. All these came as part of that sd central install.

Go to your programs list and find WindowBlinds and click on it's icon. That will give you config.

I have Windows Blind 4

I think that will be your problem, you will need to update to the latest version. You won't regret it,WindowBlinds has come a long way since version 4.:)

My program list doesn't have Windowsblind listed actually. As I said before it, came bundled in the theme manager install I did when I got the gal civ II theme for my deskstop (I haven't changed my theme since then so a theme manager is not on the top of my want list). I even tried to upgrade it via the sd central control panel but apparently the code I have is only good for the theme and doesn't allow me to update windowsblind 4.

As to upgrading it, how much is this going to cost me to continuing using the latest version of windows messenger live, which is what started all the problems in the first place!

Last time I checked, Windows Live Messenger was a freebie!

The lastest version of windowsblind isn't though, and it is what's having issues with the old version of windowsblind.

I can't even find a way to uninstall windowsblind.

This will uninstall WindowBlinds from your computer - Zapper

Warning: this will delete any installed skins/themes for the component when used to uninstall that component.

For the price of the latest WindowBlinds - Check here

There is a trial version also that you can use to check that it works with Windows Live Messenger.

Exclude it from being skinned - it can't be anyway I think as it has its own various looks - open windowblinds and go to settings > per application >add then navigate to the exe for it, exclude all >OK then that should fix it.

How about try trillian ?

An all encompassing IM HERE it uses lots of IMs in its interface so you are still on live messenger

Good, I thought you had - always need to exclude the main exe file and any exe file helper files too. I think the previous Windows Live Messenger had no issues with wba too.

Just got the trouble with Windows Live Mail due to WindowBlinds and referenced like this by Windows as a consequence

What's that ugly thing and when Stardock will fix that ? >:(

N.B: excluding Windows Live Mail for being skinned by WB does not work
