Flagship - does it get any bonuses?

First ship you build is named "flagship". What does it mean? Does It get any damage/hp bonuses? If not, why?

Unfortunately, no. I don't really know why, game balance maybe?

So I have balance idea for next patch:

-Flagship get 15% bonus to HP, Shields and antimatter reserves. Flagship also increase allegiance in friendly system by 10%.

-you can change your flagship same way you change capitol (pay some money and after time flagsip bonuses are transfered from oneship to another one)

-If you lost your first flagship only one to get another one is buying "flagship" for one of your existing ships

well, the "flagship" is nothing more than the highest level cap

if you get two caps with the same level you have no more flagship

a lot of us like the idea of flagship but dont think the devs are going to do anything about it

they handled it really well in Conquest frontier wars (adrimals who gave fleets bonuses of thier own unique theme which you could assign to a ship which became the fleets flagship, I think. I liked the Russian missile admiral).

The flagship does get a slight bonus

The flagship does get a slight bonus
End of quote

Are you sure that statement is... fact-checked????

I highly doubt it is. The Flagship designation is purely cosmetic right now.

No it does not I'm afraid, no DPS increase, no Antimatter increase, nothing but a name

It would be nice to designate a flagship ability and give it to the "first" capital created. Well, there is nothing in place for that. There used to be a mod that had Flagship versions of the Capitals, enhanced versions, but since there are only 9 slots it meant shorting one of them.

If the flag ships get bonus, then thats the more resigning youll see when people lose their capital ships

IMO it should be something like this:

- you can have only one flagship at time

- first ship you build autoamtically become flagship

- for 1000 credits you can move flag to another ship (same way as you change capitol), it take ~60s

- when your flagship is destroyed, you can turn one of your other capitals into flagship same way you are moving flag (1000cr + 60s)

- flagship get extra 15% hp, 15% shields and 15% AM, bonus is lost when you move fag into another ship

- Flagship increase allegiance in friendly system by 10% (no effect on enemy systems)

Ok just as an aside, what ship would you pick to be your flag ships (any of the 15 ones that are currently availiable)

Akkan or Dunvo

Given the actual purpose of a flagship, the only bonus I'd give it if I were giving any bonuses would be something C3-related -- such as more reliable and more rapid response to orders.

MARZA w/ Inendiary shells for first upgrade, and raze planet for next.

my cap ship? a 1967 Cadillac El Dorado Convertible =P

Marza for TEC.

"I beamed them down on the planet. I stayed behind. Last man on the ship, thats what you are supposed to do as a captain, isn't it?" - "Where is your crew?" - "On the third planet..." - "There is no third planet." - "Don't you think i don't know that? There was but not anymore... if you had seen it you'd know the whole thing is a weapon, it must be... its miles long, it destroys planets, chops it into rubble..."

Devastator for Vasari.

"Tactical analysis." - "52 disruptor banks, 27 photon torpedo bays, primary and secondary shields." - "Its a predator."

Halycon for Advent.

"Admiral, we have enemy ships in sector 3-7." - "Its a trap." - "Fighters are coming in." - "There is too many of them." - "Draw the fire away from the cruisers."

I have to admit colony-capitals are always an alternative especially on large maps. But the colony aspect aside thats my pick.

The Marza is simply lethal if it manages to slip through a planets defensive perimeter and its well geared for doing so. The Devastator is simply the most powerful in ship-to-ship combat around.

But my absolute favourite has to be the Halycon.

Its capable of amplifying all that nice beam damage from your Illuminators and can be geared to either destroy frigates and provide cover with fighters or to kill capital ships and heavy structures with bombers. Usually early on you want to kill frigates and later assasinate capital ships.

Also it can deal with fighters on its own. And of course its the meanest carrier in the entire game.

If i was to go on a capital ship, ill choose the Akkan. and run away

Wow....either the mazra or the advent's battleship

Depending on my mood, it would be any of the 6 i concider combat caps-  The Batleships and the Carriers.

Choose one?  Well, i don't like advent, so there goes 2.

I'd have to say it's actually a 3 way tie, and when it comes down to it, th SOVA would be my choice, since they are essentially a one-ship fleet.

SOVA FTW!!!

Also, i'm in agreement on the flagship thing being implemented, with the exception that you should be able to make any ship your flagship, not just the capitols.  THough, the argument can be made that the Capitol ship in their own right are already Flagships and we're just nit-picking over a word that appears on on of them.

i remember a time when people barely considered the Sova a cap let alone a useful cap =P my how the times change
