Balance Discussion?

Where in this forum should we open up a balance discussion? I thought something like that would be in the Ideas or Strategy or even Multiplayer sections, but it's either not there, or my spot skill is terribly low...

Anyway, we need one. Badly. We need some kind of organized effort to stop this LE>UB>Oak>>>Sed>>Rook>All nonsense...

Are you looking around there are plenty, and are you even looking into the modded forums; because people are already doing things about it.

No worthwile real balance discussion can be had in a Modding forum. Especially since they aren't centralized, but have a single thread for each demigod, and they are completely ignoring the favor items, minions and general game mechanics.

Firstly you do realize they are willing to make completely mods actually part of the game right?

Secondly there are plenty of topics on everything you just mentioned; you are not the first nor will be the last to think of those things.

Thirdly hahahahahahaha!

I know I'm not the first to open a balance thread, but I can't find a single all-encompassing thread. They're all "OMG NERF BITE!", which talks about bite and bite alone, and "Health stacking should be nerfed" which, surprisingly, talks about health stacking. Balancing has a ripple effect, and should be treated as such.

What you is a topic that has everything in it, but what you don't understand is there can't be such a topic. The games has to many variables; like you said balance has ripple effects. But you can't just espect the major changes and the ripple effectsas well as the major ones to all be stuck to one topic; which is why there are multiple topics each specializing in an aspect of demigod.

What we really need are more threads where people argue over whether or not we need a balance thread.

Yea lets start; taxes in demigod are too high! The tribute queen of thorns demands is excessive!

OK so let's start...

There are two problems that I'd really like to see handled pretty soon, because I believe these are the biggest problems in the game.

The first one is simple: Health stacking. It's been mentioned over and over again, but nothing has been done about it. Apart from the incredible durability a high health grants a demigod, the other big peeve is it's linear scaling. Demigods that are supposed to be balanced by a lower than normal HP get as much benefit from it as everyone else. Unclean Beast is, for example, supposed to have a good 20% lower HP than the rest, but he frequently ends up with the highest in the game, because he is fast, has a great attack, and super powerful skills. On the other hand we have the Rook, who is supposed to be the slow tank demigod. Thing is, if he goes for a high health, he becomes a slow, useless, lumbering hulk of a target. His greatest weakness is his low speed, and guess what... The speed enhancing items in the game are all % based!
That should be applied to both Health and Mana items. A fixed % based off the demigod's own base health at a certain level, taking the +stats skill into account(to buff that little bugger a tad). Something like 10% would replace 400 items, 20% would replace 800 items etc.

The second one is more involved, as it is an effect that several demigods have in several skills. Stun. Please note that the demigods with the most readily available or most potent stuns available are currently the most powerful ones, Erebus with his huge AoE long duration stun, UB with his stupidly powerful instant 2s stun, Oak and his instant and low recharge line stun... Rook and Sedna seem to be kind of in the lower-high tier with their respective stuns, but have problems of their own.
Thing is, these need to be worked on on a case-by-case basis, no one-size-fits-all. I think the Stun should be removed from UB's grasp, replaced with a severe movement and regen penalty. That's one example.

Once we get these two sorted, we can start working on Generals, Minions, Items favoring Generals over Assassins etc.

Removing UB's ability to interrupt casts would be a ridiculous nerf, a much better starting point is to give it proper stun immunity the way every single other stun in the game works.

I think there's a simple solution for fixing health stacking: Change the HP flag on cat to a debilitating flag. Bam, 15% health item nerf across the board and 10% buff to DPS items. The problem with an outright nerf to HP outside of that kind of change is that in 3v3 and 4v4 players can die in about 5 seconds and the additional health is necessary.

You say UB should be fragile, but I don't really see that in his design concept at all. I think he was given low health because they knew he'd be using Ooze and getting bonus HP from ditching a helm because of it. Also changing to % health percentages would punish QoT, TB, DA, Sedna, and Regulus while it'd buff Oak, Rook, and EB. I'm not sure how it would affect UB because he'll always have one more health item than most other players anyway.

So while I agree with you in theory about changing health items to % modifiers, I think that's just too dramatic a change, though I'd be interested to see what kind of numbers you came up with if you started working on it. It could be done well, but you'd have to put a TON of effort into it.
