ODZip.dll not found! After several Re-Installs and, and, and....

FIRST Time Revanito gets REALLY angry about DesktopX!

Hi dear Users!

Oh YES: I get angry... cause:

I read HOURS in the Forums, i followed EVERY advise, i re-installed DesktopX more than ONE time, i re-installed IMPULSE...

and still get that boring "ODZip.dll not found....."

1st: It IS in EVERY Directory!

2nd: SOME Widgets/Objects WORK... some NOT

3rd: Those which DON`T work (my beloved TIGGZ-Clocks), worked a Year ago!

4rth: Even the Registry-Entries are corrected.

I am completly helpless, cause i know i did everything one can do! Is there a Bug in DesktopX 4???

I tell you what: DON`T you EVER tell me to re-install WINDOWS! I love Stardock Tools... but not THAT MUCH!

Its only frustrating, cause: You buy... for Example... an IPHONE... but you can use it only 80% of all the Functions!

Wouldnt YOU be frustrated TOO?And... DesktopX IS a Major-Part of ObjectDesktop for me.

So... if one of the Masters of Stardock read this...(i searched the Forums a LOT)... please give me a Tip!

Yes. Many of us DX users are having the same trouble.:'(   It is best to use 3.5 until Stardock gets 4.0 working properly. To do this,Uninstall DX 3.89 beta, run something like CCleaner then reboot.Open Impulse and uncheck "Show pre-release versions" You should see DX version 3.5 as available. Install it and enjoy DX while the issues with 4.0 get sorted out,which I'm sure will be worth the wait.

Yeah...what he said. Only, if you own DesktopX Pro, you can install 4.0 and you'll see 2 versions in Impulse as installed, DesktopX, and DesktopX Pro. Don't run the pro, run the plain DesktopX and it will load Pro anyway and it will work, at least that is what I get.

But to Stardock: Why do you publish a Software, when its not stable 100%??? I do not understand....

DX 3.89 is a Beta,so it's the nature of the beast. I don't mind testing betas,as long as I can still use the software but with this problem  that was impossible. In this case,so many people reported the ODZip error that I'm sure SD went to work on it right away. I'm still going to wait a bit longer before I try it again.

I have found that if I (attempt to) load the widget/object by double clicking it directly in Windows Explorer, it will not work (missing dll), but if I load that same widget/object through DesktopX itself or through the Widget Manager, they then work. Once loaded this way, they will auto-load on startup if so desired. I don't know why this works or what the problem is, but I rely upon this method now to get mine to work.

i had the same prob but after some advice u ininstalled DX4 restarted pc ran impulse and re-downloaded DX4 - only thing is now dont know what to do with it  lol   :grin:

I tried yoour fix Randy but Impulse pops an error and locks up when trying to uninstall v4.

Try this if you have 4.0 installed.

 Open Impulse ,click on the blue button @top left. Uncheck "Show prerelease versions" Then right click on DX and verify installation. It will say an update is available,which will be 3.5. This is the method I used twice now.I hope this is helpful.
