Player Lost?

Im currently playing a 9 player game (me and 8 AIs) and one of the AI players, who was an ally, turned on me cuz i didnt help him repel an attack.  So i sent a modest fleet into his home planet gravity well and began an attack, however i began to lose so i started to retreat.  After i had successfully retreated i went into the diplomacy menu and noticed he was lost (his profile pick had a crack in it and no trade/peace etc options where available) but i hadnt even attacked his home planet itself so why was he lost?

He surrendered?

Is there any chance another AI player crushed him after you left?

Can the AI surrender? that seems odd cuz they still had most of their empire in tact and a large fleet.

I was the only player attacking their home world so no one could have snuck in and took him out while i wasnt looking.

Has this never happened to you guys?

yes the AI can surrender

and they always surrender in lame ways, it gets very frustrating and we are hoping the devs will either fix it or let us get a hold of the AI code and do it ourselves

You only have to sneeze and the AI quits.

The AI's surrendering behaviour is very much bipolar. It can either surrender when it has plenty of fleet left with a decently sized empire, and other times will stubbornly refuse to admit defeat even though it has no fleet left and its remaining planets don't have any space for replacement factories (AFAIK, the AI doesn't scuttle its buildings).

Yea, the AIs must have different "Crack" criteria and thresholds. It might be set at the start of the game.

Some possibilities:

No CAP ship.

No CAP ship and no hope to build one within limits (time?). Can include no Cap Ship factory and lack of resources (including Credits). Note: If the AI can't scrap, then build space becomes a needed resource.

No Capital.

No Capital and No resources to designate capital within limits.

No Planet

No planet and No colonizer

No planet and No colonizer and No open planets.
