Favor Points Question

I've been searching all over for an answer and I can't figure this out.  In single player my Favor points add up after each match, and if I buy a favor item, I keep it permanently and can reuse it whenever.

However, I play multiplayer custom games with a few friends and it doesn't seem to work the same way.  We usually play 2v2 or 3v3 versus the computer.  In the beginning we call got favor points after each match.  Soon, one of my friends stopped getting favor points after each match.  Now he hasn't gained any favor points in 5 or 6 games and he's stuck with two favor items and less than 100 favor points.  Shortly thereafter, I stopped getting favor points.  I am stuck with 225 points and 4 favor items.  My other friend got up to around 700-800 points before he stopped getting them.

I tried to do some testing to see if it was a glitch.  I played some 1v1 online against the computer to see what I could figure out.  After 2 games I was awarded 50 favor points (though I was supposed to get 190 according to the end-game statistics).  I noticed that I got the favor points when I unlocked an achievement at the same time (I couldn't read the achievement because it just flashed on the screen for about .1 seconds).  

So what's the deal?  Do you only get favor points in multiplayer if you unlock achievements?  Any help would be appreciated.

Games vs the computer only online do not give favor points.  You can still get favor points for completing achievements in game though by beating the computer.  That's why you earned favor intially. 

IMO it's been a silly system since the get go as its very confusing as to when you get favor.  The end game summary says you earned X favor, but you really earned 0 or some other number.  Some easy ways to get more favor online:  there are achievements for level 20 with each dg (if I remember right).  Host a gamew ith starting level 20 against the ai with some of your buds and you'll get the favor for that.  You can do that for every character.  You'll get normal favor points for playing human v human in a game that lasts more than 5 minutes.
