Preorder == Beta entry?

Hi folks; I'm a fan of Stardock games, and this one looks right up my alley. I was going to preorder it next month, but if I pre-order it, do I get access to the beta instantly? If so, I'll probably order straight away.

From what I understand, its a cross between Civilization and a fantasty RPG...? Either way, it looks like my sort of game (I've got GalCiv's 1/2 and Sins of a Solar Empire, AND Demigod (although I got too much verbal abuse from the troll/know-it-all players for me to like playing it alot, it was fun).

No, you'll get into the beta when the next beta phase is released (Beta 2, not 1C). Atleast from what I understand

Yes, it has a fantasy setting and is a 4X game like Galatic Civ. It also has RPG elements when it comes to your certain units and exploration (dungeons might be explorable in the future)

Ah, righto. Well, ok, I'll keep my eyes peeled for updates; and good about the details, this seems like a game I'll enjoy when its out :)

I too can't wait for this game. Especially since I HAVE pre-ordered and have access to the Beta now. I just dont want to deal with the bugs and such. I'll let the people who dont wish to have fun deal with ironing those out.

Yup, that's one important thing you've to be clear about.

The current beta isn't much fun. It's much more stable then some weeks ago, it still sucks nevertheless. :D

Yeah the current game is definitely promising, and it's interesting to get a look under the hood (so to speak) at a game in the process of being developed - but it's very incomplete. Don't preorder expecting that you can uninstall your other strategy games and move on to Elemental, preorder if you want to get an early look at (and input into the creation of) an amazing strategy game that won't be complete for months yet.

To answer your second question, yes you can definitely think of it as Civilization in a fantasy setting with some roleplaying elements. If you like turn-based strategy, or fantasy RPGs, or better yet both, you'll love the fantasy strategy game that Elemental will eventually become when it's finished.

Thanks for the further feedback folks. I'll preorder sometime in 2010, I think, when its closer to complete ;)

All things considered, somebody should probably change the stardock.com page for Elemental, which states it'll be out mid-to-late 2009. =P

I assume Elemental will be out late 2010/early 2011, so yeah - there is a lot of time :).

Yea, if you're looking for it to be remotely interesting, that would likely beta BETA 3 which won't be until this Spring.
