Problema with IP 5 and Windows 7

Hi,

Today I installed IP 5 on mu computer, Windows 7 x64.

I changed packet of icons and I wanted to return to default icon. IP didin't change folders icon. Morever folders icon couldn'y change to any other icon from another packs.

Then I decided uninstall IP 5, but when I remove this program, my icons on taskbar and lot od icons in Star Menu was blank.

I read on this forum solitution about removing IconHander Kay with registry, I removed this key, but the problem is still.

What can I do with this problem?

I didn't suposse that software of Stardoc can be lots of bugs ;/

Monika

PS. Sorry for my English

before you uninstalled Icon Packager did you reset it back to default, run a clean up program and then reboot?

I'm running Icon Packager and Win 7 with not problems.

I bet the problem lies with not using the cleanup program like CCleaner which you can get for free, MonikaW HERE.

Follow the directions in step 6 & 7 of this thread to restore the Live Folder icons.

Thanks All for answers.

Philly0381 and CarGuy1 - Yes, I restored icons, all icons in tab Hilight (and there icons are ok, but in system are wrong) and reboot my system. But the folders icons didn't want change and after uninstall was the problem with exe icons.

DrJBHL - I know CClener and I cleand registry, but it didn't produce effect.

Now IP 5 works good only with one package which I apply as first (Flash Live). When I aplly another pack the folders icon are from Flash Live.

I don't know why ;/

PS. Some last-minute news.. I uninstall IP 5 again with Impulse (not with Control Panel) and problem with blank icons didn't appear.

But my folders icons are still incorrect. When I choose in Folder Options "always use icon, never miniature" folders are sohown correct. When I use miniatures, the big icons are incorrect, but small are ok.

How can I force IP 5 to change folders icons? Have you got more ideas?

Monika

EDIT2.

The problem solved.

Explorer showed wrong miniatures so I marked option in Folders Options "Always show icons, never miniatures" and reboot my system. Then I used CCleaner to clean up cache of miniatures and marked out option in Folders Options again and all is ok now.

Thanks for help :)

Regards

Monika

From odd problems I have had it appears to me that Icon Packager and Windows 7 are not compatible. Had a huge problem with trying to get icons back to default then could not change an individual icon without getting a message box saying Icon Packager could not load common.dll.

That part has now been fixed by the latest update but will still not change some icons. In Icon Packager they show the right icons but the files still have Windows default.

Would love to apply an icon package but not going to till these problems have been sorted as took a scannow sfc to get some icons back from going from a package back to default and they were completely missing.

I see a "lot" interests from Stardock to resolve the conflict (meesd up icons) or give us the solution...

Maybe the next year... who knows....

Maybe...

Sfc /scannow was the only solution i've found to solve the messed up icons issue on windows 7 64bits. I've uninstalled IP of course (and most of the object desktop products), and I don't want to give it a try anymore.

Ever.

I only use CursorFx and Object dock.

I'm very disappointed (euphemism), there's no effective help from stardock supports given what i've read on this forum (and elsewhere). Let's say it's because of the holidays ?

I'll stay an object desktop costumer only on my old vista laptop, i've no complain there.

And i'll also stay tuned to see if Stardock will fix the compatibility of many of its software on windows 7, and stop claiming they are (I'm not sure of the meaning of this sentence, sorry for my poor english ^___^" )

Disappointed (still euphemism), but optimistic :P

Which other applications are you having problems with on Windows 7?

Hi Monika, Hi all,

I am using Win 7 (french language) with iconPackager 5.00.021 (downloaded from impulse). When IP install a new set of icons it makes modifications directly inside c:\windows\system32\imageres.dll ... original size and date changed in my Win 7.

When IP reverts to the original set of icons it's unable to restore the original file structure of imageres.dll. I guess that because size of imageres.dll isn't the same as the original + original live folders icons are missing !! Exploring live folder data (no 153) inside imageres.dll I noticed the icon of the previous theme is still present and used by IP. Looking inside IP all the live folders are blank and didn't work to change them manually.

The work around I've found is to rename imageres.dll into imageres.old and then copy from a backup the original untouched imageres.dll. After that open IP and in the settings rebuild the icon cache.

I hope stardock will fix this annoying issue some day ...

Grettings

I have similar problems with IP5 and Win7. I cannot use medium sized icons, only some of the system folders change, the rest are either windows default icons or the previous icon package applied. As soon as I switch to normal or small icons and rebuild the cache it works. There is a big problem with IP5 scaling up to larger icons. Very disappointing. I had the same problem with IP5 and Vista but not as bad as with Windows 7.

Quoting Neil,
Which other applications are you having problems with on Windows 7?
End of Neil's quote

Fences pro, deskscapes : weird behavior themselves and/or causing crash of explorer.exe + desktop resolution problems with bugs in windows 7 themes (i.e does not save the screensaver) and so on. When uninstalled, no problems anymore. Fences is only disabled (and i really miss it), not uninstalled.

DesktopX : None of a single desktop gadget ever worked. I don't use desktopx themes, it was my only utility.

I suspect Windowblinds to be incompatible with many of my bigfish games (very odd desktop behavior, blinking then game stops), unless I unload it or assign my games to work with aero disabled in compatibility mode (stop dwm.exe). But none problem found with Windows 7, i admit. I just want back the ability of changing explorer background colors, but i'm certainly not going to install WB6 on windows 7 for that :D

After my many issues with IP, i did not even want to test MyColors or tweak 7, all a week-end thinking i was going to be bold on finding a fix for my icons had been enough, huhu !

L-E-O : i've experienced and noticed exactly the same issue in modified imageres.dll, but unlike you i was not able to rename and replace it by the original, so rebuilding the cache was totally useless. [C'est très exactement le probleme, sauf que j'ai même pas osé entreprendre une traduction laborieuse ^^]
