Win7 Start Panel size cut up?

Well I've done my first start panel, looks pretty good tho I think it will screw up

when stretching but right now I don't care, just playing around with it. The problem

is I am not sure how to chop it up. I found this link but that's for Vista I believe.

Anyone know of a similar tutorial or at least where to put the guides for cutting up

the image?

The Win7 start menu is cut up the same way as in Vista

Interesting, once I get the slicing figured out, meaning I actually get the start panel right I will look at doing
what you said.

Next problem, the user icon, how do you move it around. I'm assuming you can move

it because it is ending up where I am not expecting it:

dunno about that user icon, never seen that before, if its bothering you just delete it, you can do that in the top panel section in extras, you can enable or disable it.

Well I was actually referring to splitting up the left and right panels. If I'd done it exactly as
the Vista example then I would have split mine down the middle instead of off setting the cut
to where the panels join and as this is my very first skin and hadn't been poking around
other people's skins yet I probably would have made that mistake. After looking at a couple
other skins because cutting it down the middle really didn't feel right I realized the cut needed
to be offset.

But it was your advice that got me really looking at that tutorial and enabled me to figure it
out in short order. Saved me a whole lot of hair pulling ;)

As for the user icon, I just started a new skin instead of working off another one and it's back
where I wanted it... well mostly. Can it be moved around? I'd like to offset it to the right about
20pxs.

It'd sure be nice if there was an indepth tutorial with full illustrations explaining all the settings.
If there is, anyone got the link?

user icon: nope its not moveable. but if your not happy with it, you can disable it from being shown in the top panel extra section. its a personal choice, some like it, some dont.

as for the left and right panels (the programs list and the places list) for vista, the programs list is usually wider because it allows for the more progs menu to pop up inside itself, instead of a flyout menu like xp. So i normally guesstimate it myself and do it by feel.  The programs list is of course the one on your left (as you sit at yr pc)
