How to get Impulse to work correctly ?

How to get Impulse to work correctly ?

I'd like to know how it is possible to run that #´&$£ Impulse program to run correctly >:(

DeskScapes 3 is not shown as avaible, DesktopX4 is not shown as avaible, MyColors Ankh desktop still bringing "error retieving data" (and maybe some others errors ...)

I think i've tried everything: reset data / clearing usage data in Impulse, uninstall Impulse, reboot, then reinstall with the full installer, (same result), uninstall Impulse, reboot, then reinstall with the online installer (same result) ...

Did the same also with DeskScapes, DesktopX, MYColors

Though, anymore suggestions before i through the PC throw the window ? :waaaa:

Most software will tell you to close all open programs before installing. Why is it such a suprise when you don't do that and a program won't install?

I have Impulse playing silly buggers at present, it keeps saying that I'm working in offline mode, that I need to close it, reconnect to the net and open Impulse again.   Did all that (was connected anyway) but still I'm offline... funny, that, I'm logged in here alright.

99% of the time this is security software.  You're online, but something is not letting Impulse be online.  Another useful check for people that don't use IE all the time (myself included, being a big Firefox fan) is to make sure that IE connects to the net.  Internet Explorer's settings are basically Windows connection settings for anything that uses the mshtml.dll (IE's engine).  If IE is not working, most likely Impulse will not.

I don't think it was any of my security software.  Impulse was always able to connect prior to those attempts, and I tried again the next morning (with all security apps running as usual)  and connected without issue.  I'm not aware of any IE issue (being Firefox is my default browser), but it may have been connected to IE issues at the time.  I also used IE the following morning to get MS updates without issue.

Can't say for sure what caused the issue, but that was the first and last time I saw it... Impulse has behaved perfectly since.

Therefore, shouldn't Impulse make an exception for them. Or should all AV's make an exception for IMPULSE!?!?!?

This would pretty much render your AV software useless.  If we could tell AV software to ignore Impulse, so could viruses.  Usually it is the heuristic protection in AV software that causes issues, which is making detectioons based on behaviors and not known virus definitions.

check if MyColors is installed correctly, it will say NO and that i've to update it ...

...

...and finally if i check the WindowBlinds 7 installation, it will say it is not correctly installed, if i update (again) WB7, then reboot, then re launch Impulse, it will be again MyColors which will be said as not correctly installed if checked ... and so on ... (that's what happened ten's of time to me, and on the 3 PC's, though i won't check to verify MyColors installation )

End of quote

Yes, this will always happen as the 2 applications share installation information.  Always Verify MyColors and then WindowBlinds in that order.  Once you verify WindowBlinds, do not reverify MyColors, as it will always fail.

That's the point which also brings back wrong informations in Impulse about DeskScapes / DesktopX ...

I mean right now, DeskScapes 3 is installed (and mentionned as it in Impulse) and DesktopX 4 beta upadate is showing as avaible.

What i'm telling as issue till the start of this thread, is that if i verify MyColors now, Impulse will tell me it's incorrectly installed, suggest me to update it, and if i do  (i won't because i know now it's the reason of troubles), after the reboot, Impulse will show me DeskScapes as "previous version installed" (and no more deskScapes 3 as installed) and DesktopX 4 beta won't neither be listed as avaible, but DesktopX 3 listed as installed...

Though it's the reverify MyColors which brings other issues in Impulse and which should be fixed for everyone ;P

Verifying MyColors would not affect DeskScapes or DesktopX, unless somehow they were installed to the same directory.

That's what it does on my 3 PC's under XP SP3 french (well it does not affect DeskScapes or DeskropX themselves, but the way Impulse is showing their status ...)

The verification process simply checks installed file hashes against those on the server.  In the case of MyColors and WindowBlinds/IconPackager, because these files are shared there is an overlap.  However, MyColors does not share any files with DeskScapes nor DesktopX, so unless those applications were installed to the same directory as MyColors this would not be possible.

I'm sorry again but, DeskScapes is correctly installed in it's own default directory as DesktopX too ... and i get the problem described upon :S

... and it's not only reverifying MyColors installation wich brings the problem:

I just update SkinStudio 7 Pro (6.96[b].021) to SkinStudio 7 (7.00.014) and as soon as it was installed (and correctly installed) , DeskScapes 3 and DesktopX 4 beta which were listed as installed and avaible for the second, disappeard from Impulse and i get now DeskScapes (not DeskScapes3 but DeskScapes) as avaible and DesktopX as installed ... (all of that without having changing anything for DeskScapes 3 which is still installed in C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\DeskScapes3 and DesktopX which is still installed in C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\DesktopX ...)

I revert back to SkinStudio 6.96[b].021 (just to see the effect in Impulse ...) and you know what ? DeskScapes 3 came back listed as installed (and correctly installed) and DesktopX 4 beta came back as well listed as avaible ...

same on 3 PC's running XP SP3 french  :-"

Another ugly thing yet...

Just opened Impulse (on 1 PC) to see if any updates came around and saw there was a DesktopX professionnel update avaible ( :omg: ) as well as the desktopX 4 update avaible. Found it strange, but i clicked to update and then got a #$£# error message that i have not entered the registration information for this product ( ?????? )

I tried everything, begining to use my Object Desktop serial number to add DestopX (i get a message that the serial number is not recognized by Stardock >:( ), update registration, reset data, repair impulse, nothing's working ...

What i am supposed to do whith that shity Impulse ?

N.B of course DesktopX is already (V 3.50) is already installed and functionnal (WIN XP SP3 french)

If you are having issues then email support@stardock.com. They would need more info from you and when you get a trouble ticket they will work with you to solve your Impulse problems.

support@stardock.com ?? I send a request two weeks ago regarding the fact that i can't get Camouflage Windowblinds to have Explorer Backgrounds (with the un-encrypted .suite version and in the XP substyle) ... the only thing support was telling me is that there's no problem with Camouflage WindowBlinds

Do U think it's what we can call "support" ?? >:(

If you have a complaint about Stardock support then email complaints@stardock.com. Two weeks ago all of Stardock were on holiday vacation and they have been replying to email support requests on a first come first served basis.
