This Version Of Deskscapes is Not Compatible With Windows 7

I made the mistake of trying to install demo version of deskscapes.  I tried to uninstall it and it says its gone.  However everytime I try to change anything wallpaper related I get this message.  I need a version that will work with Win 7 so I can install then uninstall and hopefully fix the problem.  I really don't feel like doing a reformat on my system.

WTF can I do to fix this?

Win 7 Ultimate / Deskcapes (latest) can't get the beta because I don't have it currently installed.

try doing a registry cleen up with c cleaner or something similar or just do a system restore to when you installed the demo. Also it is the weekend, support are only in on weekdays

Hello forum,

I clean-installed windows 7 32bit and started installing all my programs starting with dreamscapes. Once I installed it (version 2.5), I immediately when to personalization windows just like in vista and I could not load any of my dreams onto the desktop. In fact, when I click on the drop down bar I see the words "Dreamscapes" and "Dreams" but none of the dreams have a preview in the window. This included when I click on browse and specify which folder has my dreams. So I went to the folder containing my dreams and they are there so when I double click on it it states that it is not compatible with my version of windows. Will I have to buy the new version of dreamscape? It's a shame that I just bought in July and bought other dreams then I can't use them unless I buy another version of dreamscape. Not only that but I'm not even interested in the new features.

Any solutions to this yet?  I had tried the trial version of Deskscapes, but have the same problem since upgrading to Windows 7 64-bit.  I don't care about Deskscapes but it annoys me that first, the application was not uninstallable via Windows (had to use the Revo uninstaller), and that second, even after uninstalling the app, cleaning up the registry, I still get this very annoying error.

I have found that the Deskscapes folder still exists in the Program Files directory (Stardock\ObjectDesktop), but it will not allow me to delete it due to 4 .dll's (deskscape, deskscapes, DesktopControlPanel, and DreamControl).  It keeps telling me that it is in use by another program, but I can't find any programs or services that should be using this.  I could not even delete this in SafeMode.

I am having the same issue.  Fresh upgrade to Windows 7 Professional.

Accidently had Deskscape 2.5 installed.

This corrupted the Windows 7 Wallpaper chooser.  I can no longer edit Win7 wallpaper themes.

When I choose Wallpaper options in control panel I get the error.

This version of Deskscapes is not compatible with Windows 7.

I uninstalled Deskscapes, cleaned up my registry with 2 registry cleaners that deleted all instances or mentions of deskscapes, and removed all left over folders.  But still continue to have this error which has broken my ability to change wallpapers in Windows 7.  Install of the most recent version of deskscapes does not resolve either.

I do not want to have to reinstall Windows 7 from scratch, as a rollback is not possible.

Has anyone figured out a fix for this?

Installing Deskscapes 3 should sort it as Deskscapes 3 will unregister all the Deskscape 2 files if they are present.

Sorry Neil,

Already tried that method and it does not work.  But perhaps since I am using the 64 bit version of Windows 7, there lies the problem.

After much troubleshooting, I have come up myself with a fix that will totally remove all the old Deskscape 2 DLL files which is what is hijacking the normal Windows 7 or Vista Wallpaper control panel features.

Once you have totally uninstalled Deskscapes, cleaned all the entries out of the Windows Registry, there are three DLL files which are still running, and normally can not be deleted.  The uninstall program DOES NOT remove these DLLs for some reason, which is an obvious over site by the programmers who were not ready for Windows 7, an no longer support 2.5.

How to Remove those DLL files and get Windows 7 back to normal:

If you are using Win7 64 bit.

Browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Object Desktop

In this folder you will see the three leftover dreamscape DLLs.   You can not delete them under normal conditions.

Press CTRL - ALT - DEL and open Task Manager.

Go to Processes and Terminate Explorer.exe

You will lose the windows interface, but you will be able to open to the command prompt by going to the New Task button.

Now type in CMD  to load command prompt.

You will now need to go to that directory.

At the C: prompt type CD \Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Object Desktop  and press Enter

This will change to that directory.

Now once in that directory type  DEL *.*

This will delete those three DLLs and Windows 7 will be back to normal.

Log off your user, under the Users Tab.  Log back into Windows.  Right Click on desktop, go to Personalize or Properties and you will now be able to change your wallpaper with no more prompts about Deskscapes!!

would seem easier to me just to end the process in task manager then delete the dll's

The correct way to do this is to use the tools Microsoft made available that tell you which programs need to be uninstalled prior to updating to Windows 7

HELLO,

THis is the exact same problem i was having. I have found out my own how to fix this problem it will work fir windows 7 64bit and 32bit. :D

STEPS

1: click start and go to C:/program files/stardock/objectdesktop/descapes or if your using 64bit go to C:/program files (x86)/stardock/object desktop/deramscapes.

2: now you should see all the files in dreamscapes folder hilight all the files and right click delete now a popup should come saying continue click continue and another popup should say try again do not close that popup just leave it alone and continue to step 3.

3: Press ctrl-alt-delete and start task manager go to process tab and locate explorer.exe and end process now your task bar should be gone but your try again popup should still be there now click try again and the files are deleted.

4: go back to task manager and go to applications tab and click new new task and type explorer.exe now your taskbar should be back and your wallpapers should work.

5: HAVE FUN WITH WINDOWS 7

THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE REPLIED TO THIS POST AND MADE THIS SOLUTION POSSIBLE.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
