Indexes and caches file properties for use by Explorer and other applications when searching.
This service can be disabled, but searches on complex file properties will not be possible, searching in general will be slower, and support for virtual folders may be affected. Instead, consider modifying the areas searched in Control Panel/Indexing Options.
